Sport is full of hyperbole which I find immensely iritating.
However this guy has a real case for being the greatest sportsman of all time. He obliterated the previous world record in the Olympics last year and then obliterated his own world record last night.
It did look as though he was putting a bit of effort in last night though. He only looked round the once as he crossed the line!
Phenomenal!

whats more is the guy who came 2nd and ran 9.71 was still a couple of metres behind and came second with that time! Bolt reckons he can do 9.4! just amazing.

If my memory serves me well, this guy ran both record races on a 16th August! Beijing was 16th August 2007 and then Berlin 16th August 2009. I can't imagine what he's going to do in the 200m.
I watched the race on French TV and the commentator made the remark that Tyson Gay was like a hamburger...in fact the allusion being that he was sandwiched between the two Jamaicans Bolt and Powell.
Amazing to think just ten years ago a 9.99 was deemed out of this world...
Will we see the demise in ayears time when they discover that in fact Bolt had been on something??
And what of that Chambers guy coming back then?

There was an interesting piece in one of the free papers yesterday (so probably in a mainstream - ?Daily Mail- as well) about how these records are set by what they call 'outliers', i.e. people at the upper end of the bell curve. Ian Thorpe and Michael Phelps with their enormous feet, short legs and wide shoulders. I don't think Bolt is on anything, he is too easy-going and 'normal'. All the people who have been found out have been 'surly bleeders' as my husband calls them.

I am afraid I find myself infuriated, by the treatment of the young athlete Caste Semenya, by the IAAF --- who, while she was still competing, questioned PUBLICLY, her Gender.
I noted that her Grandmother, in her native village in South Africa, remarked "I have seen everything ------ EVERYTHING !" and burst into a fit of giggles, a lovely, and natural response.
With regard to the cconcerns of the IAAF, I see they are now talking about "Muscle development"
Which causes me to remember certain USSR female athletes ----- and some current ones -- with whom I would be loathe to enter a Boxing Ring for three rounds !
It would be interesting to know --- WHO -- made the original complaint. But the announcement DURING the Championships struck me as being crass -- if nothing worse !
