Well, this is what I think.
1. We don't invest in out own youth at club level and just buy players from other countries. These players quite understandably rush home for the World Cup to play for their home country. That leaves us with about 3 players to choose from and clearly no chance of winning.
2. Wayne Rooney was on radio 5 saying he cared more about the league that the World Cup. That's good then.
3. Radio 5 also reported with justifiable contempt that players were moaning that they missed their wives too much to concentrate, or other peole's wives or who ever.
4. English players earn so much money they don't have to win the World Cup. They are not driven like players from poorer countries. They have plenty of money win or lose.So why bother.

Come On England
I was in a lovely dream at 0650 this morning and first my husband's phone bleeped, then mine, with texts with this exhortation. Luckily my idiot brother lives 250 miles away.

I can just detect the sound of the valiant England supporters singing above the stupid blasts of the mindless vevuzelas!
"Baldrick, you wouldn't recognise a cunning plan if it painted itself purple, and danced naked on top of a harpsichord singing "Cunning plans are here again.""

I am grateful that Spanish TV is not showing the game, which I feel sure will be a disappointment.
Much better to watch a football game between Argentina and Mexico later on.

Absolutely right! I haven't seen the match but heard the score so far on TMS ( we are on course to thrash the Aussies again in the 3rd. ODI) and England must be dire.

They are not actually, Lampard scored a goal about a foot over the line which none of the officials saw so was not allowed, and the Germans are very good - and fit, in both senses of word.

Germany 4 - 1(2) England
Gordon Bennett......
Why cant football take a few tips from rugby and have an extra Referee looking at the TV footage and stop the bl**dy clock when there is a hold up on the pitch .... none of this stupid 'added time' thing.

Re: Come On England!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So much for that.
England are woefully slow at the back and that was exposed today.
I'd back myself against Terry or Upson over 100 metres even now at the age of nearly 56 although the beer may just be talking a little bit!

Re: Come On England!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will the "gentlemen" of the press admit that they, are as much responsible for the national disappointment, as those "pensioners" on the pitch?

Unfair to pensioners!!!
But it might be worth pointing out that few, if any, members of the teams that are going on in the World Cup play in the Premiership. It's ruining our football!
