This has been sent to me by a footy mate on another site !
A friend of a friend had there wedding booked at Alton Towers.
They rang and asked if she could cancel for amother date.
She said no !
so they said we will meet the cost of moving it.
she said no as she had relatives from Oz coming.
they said they will pay for that.
she said no.
they said they would pay all costs plus PAY OFF HER MORTGAGE !
and the reason behind it ?????
David Beckham wants his sons birthday there on that specific date !!!!!
she has now agreed to move her date !

Every Pedants' Revolt contributor must be in a state of anguish after reading this.
Never mind David Beckham.

My manager at work (whose IQ equals his age) wrote an email MUCH worse than this yesterday. I don't think there was a sentence (of about 40) which had neither a grammar or a spelling mistake.

I saw that too Loringa, but knowing englishangel's expertise in such matters I concluded that it must have been an oversight.

Unbelievable is the correct subject line for this topic, because - unsurprisingly - it's not true. Admittedly it's not on Snopes, but you only have to Google to discover that the story has been circulating for years with different variations on venue, child, occasion, etc.
FOAF (Friend of a friend) stories have been circulating forever - in fact, coincidentally, the first time I recognised one as such was when DR told us one in about 1968. But these days we have the opportunity to check them out on the internet, and it's the first thing I do when I hear one. So why are people so credulous? Is it because we like to believe daft stories
might be true, particularly when the show other people, especially celebrities, in a bad light? I find it strangely perplexing when people post garbage masquerading as fact, without even taking minimal steps to verify it. Weird.

What was DR's FOAF story?
I wondered at the time where DR had picked up her anatomical knowledge for the Tampax Talk!

Oh dear Angela, I am at work and read that just as I was about to answer the phone. I do try and answer the phone with a smile on my face, but not howling with laughter. I must have sounded very odd.

Nothing interesting I'm afraid. "Someone she knew" had been to Swan & Edgar's department store in Picadilly Circus, and whilst in the ladies, had placed her handbag on the floor of the cubicle. A hand had reached underneath and stolen her bag. She reported it to the store, and a few days later received a letter from them, on headed paper, informing her that her handbag had been retrieved and if she would care to visit the store again, they would return it to her.
Unfortunately, it was a bogus letter from the thief, who, now in possession of her address, her keys, and the knowledge that the house would be empty, burgled her home while she was out.
I would have believed it except that it had already been recounted to my parents by a friend of theirs who claimed it had happened to a friend of a friend. Even at the tender age of 11 or so, I smelt a rat.
