CH's former English teacher from the early seventies has been elected President of the Welsh Rugby Football Union.

I was lucky enough to be taught by Gerald and he was very supportive to me when I needed it.

The only lesson I ever learned from Gerald Davies was extremely painful and occurred several times during a Colts vs Masters rugby match... Don't try to tackle the Ringer!!
[Edit: and at 74 he looks as though he could still play!]

After Bill McLaren described 'the twinkling toes of Gerald Davies' someone was heard to mutter 'goodnight Twinkle' when he stuck his head into the dormitory to wish us goodnight in Mid B.

When you consider some of the sports people honoured over the years Gerald's lifetime of service to Rugby Union, as well as his supreme excellence as a player, is well deserving of a knighthood.
Great man. Well done Sir Gerald.

Congratulations to Sir Gerald on his well-deserved knighthood.
A popular master at CH, he taught me English the year before my O-levels.
Unlike other English masters at CH - who were strictly by the book - Gerald had an open and enlightened approach that I greatly appreciated.
He recognised that I had a somewhat unorthodox writing style and at the end of that year - to my surprise - I won an English prize.
This meant a great deal to me and was the only time I won a literary prize at CH. It made me seriously consider writing as a profession and after leaving CH I became a journalist, a career that lasted more than 40 years.
So thank you Sir Gerald, and, again, congratulations on your knighthood.
