Obituary: Squadron-Leader Robin Miller, RAF; Mid B 1950-56

I regret to record the death of my younger brother, Robin (R.W.A. Miller), who was in Middleton B from 1950-1956, whence he progressed to a very successful apprenticeship at De Havillands, Hatfield. Frustrated by colour blindness from achieving his aim of becoming a fighter pilot, he discovered that he could join the RAF as a full-time gliding instructor. He became one of the leaders in this field, establishing several records, and eventually reaching the rank of squadron-leader, the first to reach that rank in his specialisation. In a very busy life he also found the time to graduate with BA (Hons) from the Open University. He was supported throughout by his wife, Susan, and their two very talented daughters, who are following successful careers in banking and nursing.
He died very suddenly and unexpectedly on 2 June 2021, just a few weeks short of his 82nd birthday, and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
David Miller
Lamb B 1948-55.
