Wow! I've just seen the new 4K restoration of "Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii - MCMLXXII" at our local cinema, with enhanced audio. What a joyful and memorable blast from the past!
I clearly remember my dad, picking me up from CH on a leave day and stoically accompanying me to the cinema in Horsham to see this performance film on its original release in 1972.
I've no idea what my old man made of Roger Waters and co doing their thing, but if he thought that they were stupid pompous bare-chested hippies a****g about on their instruments and then having a wander up a volcano or two, he kept his thoughts to himself.
Me? I absolutely adored the film... and still do. Musically it takes some beating, especially the opening number - the thunderous "Echoes - Part 1".
Most hilarious moment on this cleaned-up and magnificent sounding film is the recording studio canteen footage of the band, with Nick Mason demanding some apple pie "without the crust". That's closely followed by David Gilmour, talking to the camera in a Spinal Tap style, insisting that the band don't do any drugs at all.
Of course they didn't...
If you're a Floyd fan, you've got to see this film.
