My brother used to have an alsation that would dig up cabbages in the garden and eat them.

In our travels we had had a scarlet macaw, who traveled from Colombia to Costa Rica, to El Salvador and back to CR, all with appropriate official documents, which I still have. The documents, that is.
He lived in a tree in the garden. In one garden it was a rubber tree that had two main tree trunks making it look like a planted V. I was surprised one morning whilst taking a shower, when my son came in to say that the tree had fallen down. When I disbelievingly enquired, "Which Tree?", he said the parrot tree, and sure enough, the tree was now less half a V.
He was also a good pre earth tremor warner, since he would flutter to earth about 30 seconds before the tremor hit. And good at keeping intruders out as he was very silent before he gave you a nasty nip on the ankle. His only cage was for traveling.
Elswhere we had a green parrot, 2 parakeets and a couple of canary sized birds from the parrot family. Cage doors were always open except when we left them on the balcony or with friends when we went on furlough.
Much less trouble than dogs and cats, but, apart from the macaw, not so much fun to take for a walk.

Brilliant !!!
No way of telling, which particular Spider -- no markings, but definitely an "Orb" --- I notice quite a good "Harvest" in the corners. ---- a lovely photo (Sorry Lonelymom --- but it is ! --- however, you will notice that it was taken through a window --- so 'elf and insanity prevailed !)

Probably a bus shelter, I haven't asked.

She carries her camera everywhere. The best one was in her first year and some **** set off the fire alarm in halls at 2am, and she was outside in her jimjams WITH her camera taking pictures.

It is "OFF TOPIC" but taking one's camera, during a Fire Alarm, raises the interesting question ---- given three minutes --- what do you take, which is portable ?

---- Spouses excepted !!!!

It gives quite a thought-provoking moment !!

Back again already!

I've just been picking blackberries. Moving into a new new house, I planted a Nature Hedge, and amongst the rosa canina, spindle. blackthorn, hazel etc, I planted a cultivated blackberry so it would think it was wild. It's produced loads of fruit and I've been so pleased! :D

However , as I reached into the hedge for a whole cluster of luscious plumptious glossy black berries, I felt my hand and wrist creepily and stickily encircled by WEB. Eeek! There are spiders everywhere now in my hedge! Tiny ones, ones swinging on strands of sticky web, a golden one sneering in the middle of a web so perfect that I backed off - I mean, I just wouldn't like to destroy it's six-legged handiwork. Then a whole nation of tiny spiders has woven its way in and around my potted blueberry.

What's more, a new colony of a funny little spidery variety has constructed cocoon-like nests around the edges of the kitchen ceiling. I'm expecting a visit soon from Lynn (chaosridden years). Hooray! So I stood on a chair with a broom and eliminated the spider cocoons. Lynn might think I'm a total slattern who lives in an infested home.

("Slovenly!"

"Yes, Miss Wilson.")

But I remember a giant specimen - greatly to be feared - which menaced me in my bed a year ago, when I was reading a P D James. It appeared just as the murderer was raising his lethal blade ISTR. The spider could strike again!

Be on guard, everybody!

A baby Huntsman has been lurking just beneath the cornice above the TV at least since I got home from work yesterday. Hasn't moved much, unless it goes walkies in my absence, returning to ground zero to lure me into a false sense of security.

Actually, it being election night in Oz, the Huntsman has been more entertaining than the TV. Dr Finlay, followed by Heartbeat, Lewis and now Frost. All other channels are election results only. Really don't care until we have a final result, which is looking as though it may be a hung parliament.
