If her temperature is going down a bit now, then the tiredness may well be a result of the tremendous battle her body's had while fighting this awful virus. If the temp.'s the same, then I agree with Katharine - get advice at once! Thinking of you all, lonelymom.

Ditto. Thinking of/praying for you both, Lonelymum, at this scary time. Am sure all will be well in due course... though I am sorry for the anguish you must both be going through at the moment. I wonder how things are with the other children who would have been too poorly to have been sent home from school? As mentioned on another part of this Forum, I remember recuperating in another House at Hertford in a flu epidemic in whatever year (can't remember when!) and once I had stopped feeling ill, it was a very pleasant and relaxing time. Let's hope your daughter turns the corner very soon and starts to feel better. Is a week (the school closing) long enough?

The last time (I think!) they had to shut the school due to flu was in the early 90's when I was a junior... over 200 pupils were off sick - the sicker was full to bursting (they even reopened the two mothballed wards (these later became the short lived Hertford house) ) and there were rumours that Maine was to be used as an overflow sicker. I had a maths class that had 23 pupils in with only 8 attending! I think the school closed on a Thursday and it was a leave weekend that weekend anyway. By the time people came back, the flu died down pretty rapidly!

I too got the news from the Daily Mail as I did my daily read of the UK papers on-line. Sorry about the news itself and I'm out of touch with the fees, but I was very pleased that this DM report correctly highlighted CH's academic achievements and didn't just dwell on things like the quirky school uniform (for a change no mention of this, nor of the word 'bluecoat').

I was also at school during the devastating Asian flu in the late 1950s at the same time as David Brown, earlier poster in this thread. As far as I know, there was no serious discussion of closing the school in those times, possibly because of the logistics involved -- much easier to communicate with parents and get pupils back home these days.

I've not visit the forum for a while and have just whipped through this thread.

I'm amazed - I had no idea things were so bad. Is this an isolated outbreak confined to CH, or are similar situations occurring all over the country?

Only just seen this on early morning news - good thoughts and wishes for full health and recovery to all those with DSs and DDs at CH and anyone with D anythings otherwise related.

Dare I say it? Bit brighter this morning, has managed a small bite of a banana and a tiny piece of brown bread. Still looks awful though, and has zero energy.

Anyone got any news of any other pupils? I'm hoping everyone else is feeling okay by now.

I`ve managed to escape so far - i`m sure I would have been showing the symptoms by now, having been with the pupils for the last 2 weeks and breathing their bugs in the car, their rooms and tutor`s study etc!
I`m still touching wood though!

Very glad to hear Lonelymom's news about youngest DD, not so good about Mumto2; hope she comes through it quickly...
My DS has absolutely no symptoms tho was exposed way back when his older sister had it in the first "bulge"(or did she??? - who knows??). He is currently out on a long bike ride!

We had a dreadful journey back yesterday thro the storm - driving rain & gusting winds; several detours due to fallen trees; a branch getting stuck under the car and finally a large piece of tree dropping onto us causing an enormous crack across the windscreen. No long-term damage to the car (apart from needing a new windscreen ) or us tho it frightened DS silly... had to stop for a while to allow him to recover his equilibrium!

Anxiously switched on for news of the poor sick girls - hoping for more progress, and yes! the little taste of banana is good news! Could she manage a few sips of those fizzy Redoxon vitamin C drinks through a straw, I wonder?
