Carol Concert 2009

I've not been to Waterloo for a long time but there used to be a pub right next to the station called the Hole in The Wall which served as many real ales as you could want.

We used to call in to and from Rugby Internationals at Twickenham back in the day. Morning match, HoleIn The Wall, Twickers for the match, Cabbage Patch, Hole In The Wall and then who knows where!

Might be convenient for those who need to take a train home if it still exists!

The Old Cheshire Cheese Fleet Street used to be good. Lovely pint of Marstons back in the day. Again I've not been there in many years!

Don't know if it's just me, but the Old Cheshire Cheese seems to be a little closer to St. Andrews? I guess it depends on the direction in which people will then go after the pub....
Afraid I won't be joining you wherever you go - can't walk very far at all these days, sadly, and will be needing to find a taxi to start my journey home.
Hope all those who do go to the pub have a very convivial time and I look forward to reading about it on the Forum afterwards!

Dress code is casual/smart (if you have been at work in the City all day.. but not me! I've taken two days off work and will be swanning up on the train around lunchtime on Thursday). And I was told that all music will be provided but it looks as if Choristers will be using Carols for Choirs 1 (green) and 2 (orange) as well as the Darke In the Bleak Mid Winter, and if they have their own they could bring those as well as their pencils. My worry is about the brass accompaniment.. if John H is to be believed (cos he said he is leaving his trombone in Spain), there won't be any. AArrggh...



Once upon a time we had a respectable brass accompaniment to the Carol Concert.

A very similar programme to previous years I think...

I too have heard about the lack of brass.... It's a shame...

I will leave my reasons as to why there aren't as many in the choir etc (perhaps YOBS) not around until afterwards as numbers may change...

As it is so early, I have had to take half a day off... could it not have been an hour later even?

Sorry I can't make it. Work just too busy, and getting down from Oxfordshire just too far for that time of day.
I understand why it needs to reasonably early, so that those who work in the city (we are rather London centric aren't we?!?) don't have to hang around in town after work for too long, and will be encouraged to go straight there and hence attend.

No easy/viable alternatives, and for maximum opportunity of attendance I guess that's the way it has to be...and London is the centre of the universe (probably with maximum Old Blue population?) afterall....

Thursday I need to get a train before 2.00 from home, so there is no point in driving 40 mins to work in the opposite direction first thing in the morning for just an hour or two; and the train home will get me back around midnight so I will most definitely be far too knackered to go to work on the Friday! Sorry to see that it means we won't be seeing you, Julian. Aarrggh...

Shame we'll be a tenor down...

as for the timing - 7 would be better imho as it would give the choir a chance to get there without having to take the afternoon off - I have also never met anyone who works in the city who leaves before 6!
