Re: Snow
JR!
Anyway, an extra special place in the idiot list should be reserved for those who use a shovel to clear their driveways out onto the road and pile it up to the left and right of their exit track thus creating little rows of hillocks (JR!) to clamber up and down as one traverses the great unknown of the British pavements
Particularly entertaining question from Giles Coren last week tho', what about all that doggy pooh currently frozen beneath the glistening whiteness ready to emerge in the thaw to catch the unknowning unaware!

Well, they obviously weren't concealed very well, John!
Now I am home from work (nightmare, another story....) I will see if I still have your 'ahem' snowman e mail and if so will send it back to you to forward to others who may have given you their e mail addresses for that purpose.....

Re: Snow
Just realised John and Kerren mean the Blackpool one, or Morecambe or Scarborough or wherever. For those who haven't had it, it is actually two snow people, and I leave the rest to your imagination.

I found the image in my deleted items box, and have sent it back to JR for onward transmission to those who are interested. It's called Blackpool.... but I am not sure why!

The j-peg in question is indeed of two 'snow-persons', one certainly male, and is back now safe and sound on my HD for anyone who wants it. (Thanks, Kerren.)
I understand the photograph was taken in Blackpool, hence it's title.

Re: Snow
Rain has finally cleared most of our snow, although south Devon has had a hammering this pm. We are hoping to be able to hold the Music Appreciation group tomorrow having postponed it from last week. If we can't do it tomorrow Joe will be spitting carpet tacks, as he's spent ages preparing a programme.

Re: Snow
I believe that the residential entrance exams for CH were postponed from last week, because of bad weather. Don't know when they will be held instead.
Janet's pictures on this Forum will show the extent to which CH was engulfed in snow last week. The return to school (for all but public exam pupils) was deferred from Sunday to today.. so let's hope the rest of the school got back safely.
Here in the coastal strip of West Sussex the temperatures reached +1 today (wow!). Although that means that cleared main roads are now wet and OK for virtually normal driving, the side roads (and untreated car parks) are still a nightmare. Slippy wet stuff on the top of compacted snow/ice. I went to town to have lunch with friends today, and I had to have one friend under each arm to escort me over the diabolically skate-rink like pavement between the road the the restaurant, both to and from. I felt so stupid....

Re: Snow
Absolutely right, Mary. I am terrified of falling over (how sad is that!). I know that as disabled as I am - this does not accord with Katharine's memory of me on the hockey field over 40 years ago. I now know that if I were to fall over, I would not be able to pick myself up. On top of which I cannot possibly afford to break any more bones, especially significant ones like a hip.....
So icy and slippery surfaces remain a nightmare for me, until they are safe.

Re: Snow
Just watching the news, and while we have another inch or so on top of our five inches yet to melt, I see our friends in the west, Angela, Maggie* and others are knee deep now.
