Snow

"Raindrops keep falling on my head" in Amersham, but we have seen vehicles passing with an inch or so of snow on the roof, so it seems quite localised.

We've had nothing here in Chichester, but I just learned that there was quite a lot at Goodwood which is only a couple of miles away (though higher up).

It is amazing how the British are famous for talking about the Weather --- now you know why !

I once returned from Africa on a Troopship, and we had to wait in the Solent, for a Berth.

It ws misty with drizzling rain and cold.-------- everybody was on deck looking at the GREEN landscape and LOVING IT !

In England, we want blazing Sunshine ---- when we have it abroad we get nostalgic about drizzle !!

And the flat tyre cost me £200 for a new wheel! Bl**dy snow and bl**dy pothole!
My insurance would cover it as a charge against my own policy, but I have an excess of..... you guessed it.....£200.

Here today has been bright but not sunny, minus 9 ish, dry crunchy snow underfoot.... no holes in river - no ducks around...hope they've found an alternative!

Ducks seem to be remarkably adaptable, sometimes oddly so ---

We found that the ducks on Lake Garda would struggle to get at Sugar Puffs, and started to march up to our Tent, at an unearthly hour in the Morning, to be fed on the darn things -- totally ignoring bits of bread !!

we went for a very short and chilly walk yesterday (Wednesday) but my daft husband forgot his hat, so decided it was too cold to stay long!!

Last week the normal, relatively comfortable, daytime temp of about minus 15 went down to minus 26 as the wind took hold!! OUCH!

You can't rely on the weather ----- I recall a "Chilly" night, during which I was sleeping under a wet sheet and a ceiling fan, when I woke up feeling absolutely frozen, in a temperature of 35 F !

It was of course, in Khartoum where it was usually about 70F !!

Also in Cape Town, on our Stoop, watching the sun hiss into the sea in the West with the temperature about 90, after about ten minutes we all put coats on --- I looked at the Thermometer and it was 75 !!

Neill: your spelling - it is "stoep" where you have your braai and tiffin.

Yes, heat is very subjective; it can be terrible to be out here in England when it is 3ºC because it is so damp, but equally I have skiied topless and in shorts and gloves at minus 20ºC (and slept out in far lower temperatures) a week after lioving in Africa because the humidity was close to zero. That is why the Scottish highlands are so dangerous - damp!
