Missed it, Sorry, Phil! Though think you might not have been very active on the Forum just lately? Hope you had a Very Happy Birthday anyway, with Mrs. Ajarn.


On another matter, do you know anything about expat teachers in Thailand needing to upgrade their teaching qualifications in order to continue? I am involved (in my University) in the potential for a distance learning upgrade to such people's teaching qualifications, and I thought of you. Apparently this also applies in Hong Kong. Watch this space, or PM me?

Kerren - I deal pretty much exclusively withy English speakers teaching English, though there are quite a few secondary level international schools offering a full curriculum in English, so there may be some scope there. For TEFL teachers at a higher level there may equally be some interest in Linguistics-related BA,MA,PhDs, as these significantly up the earning potential!



Birthdays and a nasty glimpse - thank you for your kind thoughts, one and all. Unfortunately life at the moment centres on a personal battle with lymphoma, which has changed things fairly drastically, as you can imagine! No sympathy required (or wanted, to be honest!), I pass this on simply to explain my absence (one side-effect of the chemo seems to be a complete apathy to all things computer-related). Sense of humour more or less intact and on a day-to-day basis I'm fine and dandy.

And let's face it, if you're going to be ill, having to change your diet, get 30 minutes of sun every day and exercise when you're up to it, where better than Thailand, with a swimming pool round the corner, the beach not much further, and fruit falling to the ground all around you!! (I've just counted 39 papaya growing on the tree outside my window, and those are just the ones I can see...)

Phil, I'm sorry to hear of your health problems. I know several people in the UK who have recovered from both Hodgkins and Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Some of them have found the Lymphoma Association very helpful - I'm not sure whether there is anything similar in Thailand but if nothing else you might find the UK website useful.
