NEILL, I accept the Jewish synagogue male/female segregation thing.

However, I would think that (broadly speaking) this would be for reasons of concentration, the avoidance of licentious gazing leading to lustful thoughts, and women being possibly in an impure condition.

But I don't know about this "chattering" theory of yours. Tell me why you think so.

I think this is what was meant.

My husband would have been gone long ago if I had behaved like this. He needs someone to push against, bounce off (not literally) and generally be a partner.

Including during four years of unemployment. (his not mine)

Good grief woman! Where do you find these things? In my experience, when I stopped telling him what to do and how to do it, it just stopped getting done; and when I handed over financial control (briefly) we nearly ended up in court for unpaid council tax!

Some time ago there was quite a bit of media coverage of this book. Some truly ghastly tales emerged, including women who'd "surrendered" their bank accounts & lost everything - including spouses ... It seemed to me to be a typically American ploy - come up with a controversial idea, commercialise it, take the money and disappear, leaving the gullible in the s..t .

Frankly, I think a man who needs to be "captain of the ship" is living in the wrong metaphor. Respect - including self-respect, give & take, consideration & discussion seem to me to be the best foundations for a partnership. If women instigate three-quarters of all divorces, perhaps women should be encouraged to have more self-esteem so they don't opt for such c..p husbands? Just a thought...

I was just trying to find out the year that Laura Doyle brought out the "Surrendered Wives" book. It met with considerable mirth in British reviews, I remember that. If the Kent ecclesistical duo were inspired by Laura Doyle, they must be very slow readers...

Anyway, I spotted a related reference to a Japanese version.

It's called "Learn To Be Nice To Your Wife, Or Pay The Price".

I checked on Amazon (both US and UK) and it came out in 2001. There are more secondhand ones available on both sides of the Atlantic than I have seen for any other book.

I had a sneaky feeling this thread might become interesting.

I'll just use those famous words often used in interview rooms around the country..............

'NO COMMENT' is far safer.

I've heard it many times !

When my husband and I ran small business together, we had a sign on the wall in the office

"Would you like to speak to the man in charge,
or the woman who know's what's going on?"

When we married, although I did take his name in the "real" world, I left our partnership papers and business stationery in my maiden name so that I wasn't just the little wifey helping out in the office!!

Neither of us are submissive but he know's who's the boss! :D

I can omly say that, after 34 years with TBA, I believe that neither of us would want to change.

I am sorry for those who find their relationship the subject of regret and critiscm --- I don't. :D
I had thought of giving The Blessed a guest spot on this reply --- but I suspect the "Dis-affected" would infer that I was standing over her -- dictating !

We all make mistakes in our Marriages --- the thing is ---- don't make the same one twice !

I don't believe we are discussing your marriage NEILL? Or anybody else's marriage, happy or otherwise.

Aren't we discussing the content of the sermon and explanatory leaflet from the daft opinionated Vicar-and-Curate somewhere in Kent?

Reminds me of those two famous 'male' sayings..................

"There's only one Boss in our house, God bless her !"

AND,

"There's nothing I wouldn't do for my wife, and there's nothing my wife wouldn't do for me, and that's how we go through life, doing s0d all for each other !"
