On the subject of Thoroughbreds --- the only time I have fallen off a horse ----- (Sorry -- was THROWN -- nobody ever FALLs OFF !) it was Thoroughbred with a mind of its own --- haven't they all ? -- I never blamed the horse, but I hated it because it was in front of a particularly gorgeous Blonde, whom I was attempting to impress !

On Ex Racer Greyhounds --- there are few more beautiful sights, than a Greyhound at full stretch across a field --- now I know this will get me into trouble --- but it is usually after a Hare, the odds of single combat, are about 50 - 1 on the Hare, which knows its "Run" and can turn on a sixpence, Greyhound skidding sideways ! --- Hare gone through a hedge !
I plead forgiveness -- as the only other way of really exercising a Greyhound --- is behind a car -----I ask you ! !

Annette Crosby, (of 'One Foot In The Grave' fame), does marvellous work helping to re-home retired racing greyhounds.

Sadly, many are just destroyed, though they make marvellous house dogs, usually bagging the sofa for themselves for the best part of the day.

Yes, lovely lady that she is. Didn't her character in Calendar Girls appear with two greyhounds?

It's that time of year again!

Has Mr EA any thoughts or should I be asking about the 7:45 at Crayford now?

He has had a bet on the greys. and Bally Holland, Vic Venturi and Character Building, now this was shouted up and down the stairs so I may have misheard.

A friend of mind used to exhibit at Crufts and won her class one year much to her delight.

Her dogs could not be better looked after. They were (are) firstly pets and secondly "exhibits."

According to my friend that is the norm with most owners.
A gentleman I used to work with (and who is now retired) rehouses ex-racing greyhounds and also runs a dog training organisation. Some years ago (?5) one of his dogs won best of class at Crufts. Like your friend, his dogs are pets firstly and secondly and exhibits last.

Hiya

My dear spoilt pet dogs have from time to time stirred off the sofa for long enough to win several prizes at Crufts (and elsewhere).....most definitely pets first, and exhibits a very long way behind second.

The fraction of their time they spend in the show ring is quite small really. A second career....

We always take the best dogs home no matter what!

Just passed on these names to my son-in-law in Yorkshire - oh, I hope you didn't mis-hear, Mary!

As some of you already know, Jan and I used to breed and show Chinchilla cats. (American Shaded Silver Persians).

They were ALWAYS house pets first. Any one of them we kept that didn't enjoy being shown was immediately retired !

I've had £1 E/W (big spender, me) on Irish Raptor @ 28/1, purely because my grandson is nuts about dinosaurs & it's no. 35, my school number - though now I think about it, that probably wasn't such a good idea... I decided against backing the Villa to beat Chelsea in the semi-final this afternoon - their last meeting wasn't exactly encouraging. Villa lost 7-1.
