I am SO grateful, that I don't have the least idea about that, which you are all discussing ------

"Doesn't have a wall " --- Homeless ?
and many other expressions used, which I can only assume, have a different meaning in "Facebook" rather than English.

I expect calumny, "From a great height", but I would rather remain in my ignorant --- and happy, state.

Is there a Smiley for "Smug" ?

If you find a Smiley, Neill, please post one for me. I too haven't the faintest idea what Facebook is all about, and what is "worse" is that I don'e care.

Thanks to Facebook, I've just seen the lovely photos from Saturday's party! Melanie Newbury, (6's), you're no longer eleven years old in my memory!

Love Facebook.

I feel so smug that I'm not smug as NEILL-style-smug. Honestly NEILL, why be horrible about a system that keeps me in touch with people? Try to understand.

Sorry to upset Angela ----- but, those Friends, with whom I am in contact regularly, I visit either personally, by Telephone, or by Email, accompanied by photos, espescially to the "Swiss Family Evans". and get images of my GG children to stick on the Fridge door !
I am wary of any means of communication, of which I am not in control, and from the Posts on this Thread, I gather that one bares one's Soul to the World,
I may be entirely wrong --- but I don't want to try !

To quote the immortal WB Mayer ---- "Include me out !"

Slightly off topic, but does anyone else still enjoy writing letters to friends and relatives not on email or Facebook? Once I start writing I get carried away- often 5 or 6 pages of 'chat'! I'm not on Facebook, agree with Neill about the 'baring of the soul to the world' !

Hi

Yes I'm on Facebook, and find it fun to be able to communicate with all my friends at once, though must admit since most of them are dog friends, it is probably quite boring for the non-doggy to have to sit through photos of those good days in the show ring, and the latest puppies, and the cute galloping through the snow pics etc etc. But you know like anything else, it's what you make of it, and I avoid posting anything especially personal or controversial.

I also cheerfully press "Hide" for all the gimmicky Games, Presents etc.......not my cuppa tea

I do like the way it tells you your friends' (acquaintances' too...) birthdays. I had greetings from all over the world!!

There is of course the facility for private messaging if you don't want to use the Wall (which announces to all and sundry)

So all in all I wouldn't turn my nose up at it. But then I am a sociable person living in the sticks, with too many interruptions always threatening to sabotage my phone calls and letters!

I don't think Old Blues can talk about expressions having a different meaning from English

I remember Miss Tucker's confusion when she arrived in 1972. "She can't go out early on Saturday morning because she has a classroom? Of course she has a classroom!" "Girls may go into town in twos and threes, provided they have a black apron? Why would they want to take an apron into town with them?"

And then there were 'order' reports, and worse 'disorder' reports, and worst of all 'conduct' (misconduct?) marks.

Like the notice at a local petrol station "Thames Valley Police. Crime operation in progress", surely that should be "ANTI crime...." or "Crime reduction ...."

I heard a report on the radio of drug gangs in Colombia stating they murdered anyone they liked - what did they do to people they didn't like?

Having lived in Colombia for 3 years during which I nearly got caught in a gun fight in Medellin, I can can confirm that it is not only the drug gangs. I heard of someone who got followed home after a minor traffic accident and was shot when he came to open the door.
Similar is Guatemala, except the Army did what they wanted. Many true stories from there.

Pm on the way, Elizabeth.

I had to ask Melanie. Did she ever remember any bullying or unpleasantness in the House when she arrived aged eleven? Had I ever handed out stupid punishments or made any little girl unhappy? Melanie said immediately "Of course not, Munch!" and I knew she meant it. I'd achieved my aim, forty years ago.

I had to turn my head away. That meant such a lot to me.

I like facebook - it's a quick and easy way of keeping in touch with friends and relations all over the world and an excellent way of passing on information to people here, thus saving me many phonecalls! I've never liked phones very much. I like the chattiness of facebook communication. I do write letters to my mother but the last one she sent me took 6 weeks to arrive as it travelled to Austria via Bermuda. I'm amazed it arrived at all!
