Is he on Facebook in your office? Because he was just before I came on here, about 4pm.

Hello everyone! I am indeed back in Britain and loving it! As for a loose end - I'm looking for work, so that'll occupy me once I get some, but other than that I'm free! Good fun

Re: News of Josh on his pilgrimage
Exciting news from the world of Pilgrimage! Next summer (2011), I am hoping to assemble a group of people to travel the 130-mile course from Winchester to Canterbury, following much of the route used by pilgrims in the Middle Ages to travel from the shrine of Saint Swithun to the Shrine of Saint Thomas Beckett. Travelling 10-15 miles per day, I am hoping that we will complete the journey in 10-14 days, depending on group speeds and so forth. If you are interested in joining us, please PM or email me!

Josh, presumably that would be taking the Pilgrims' Way which runs right through Reigate...

Is St Swithun the same person as the St Swithin whom we blame when it rains in the second half of July?

Ever since I read and loved David Lodge's Therapy, I've thought the Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela sounds inspirational.
(In fact, thinking of the book, I had a pleading word with St James two days ago as I puffed my way up an incredibly steep bit of the Exe Valley. The Saint obliged, and I got to the top, but... oof! oof!

That's the one - the legend says that when he was moved from the common grave he had requested, and put in a place of honour, he was so annoyed it rained for 40 days!Fjgrogan wrote:Is St Swithun the same person as the St Swithin whom we blame when it rains in the second half of July?
And since you mention him, I shall be treading Compostella in 2015, if all goes to plan (let's face it, it probably won't but you have to at least make the plan)!

Where are you starting from?.We went to Le Puy, which is one of the start points and is on top of a hill so you get a running start. It was January, covered in snow and ice, and I got down quicker than expected.Eruresto wrote:Fjgrogan wrote: And since you mention him, I shall be treading Compostella in 2015, if all goes to plan (let's face it, it probably won't but you have to at least make the plan)!
If still in Spain, I would love to do a stretch with you.
A few years ago we met an 80 year old Canadian who had done it from France, weighed down with V heavy rucksack, so age should not be a problem.
We dropped him off at Bilbao railway station on his way back, hence I know he was carrying a load.
Maybe we should get an UCHF group together.
BTW, this year is the Xabobean year. Is it every 5 years?
