Hate it. I don't like the origins of facebook -it was born out of one man's feelings of rejection and no good can come of that.
It's like most other forms of internet communication-including this one ,really. There is no eye contact and no body language. No moment after you have pressed the submit button to retract what you have said.It will always be there. And in the case of facebook -they own it. I don't like that idea at all.The subtle parts of human contact are lost and at best disguised.
A recent article in the press argued that all 18 year olds should be given a new identity because so many had so disgraced themselves on facebook that they could never live it down and many would have careers where their youthful mistakes were indelible and would come back to haunt them.
By communicating on the internet , however tempting and beguiling it is , however ridiculed you are be for being old fashioned if you do not do not embrace it, you will not go to your grave wishing you had done more of it ,I think. You might regret making the effort to phone, or visit or write a letter with your own hand . I rarely re- read emails . I do still look back at hand written letters. I wonder how much history will be lost by the absence of personal letters and how much will be misreperesented by emails and twitter and face book.

Don't you think, however, that this one is a bit different ? It's more a 'catch-up' from the past and it is fascinating sharing our memories in a way we wouldn't do otherwise.

I agree fra828, this is different, especially for those of us that endured the harsh Hertford environment. It's quite therapeutic to be able to talk about things that we couldn't say then, even all these years later.
On the other hand, I am not even remotely interested in Facebook and would never join.

Whether it's facebook, forum, e-mail, phones, mobiles or letter-writing, it's basically all about communication and depends entirely on how you choose to use it. I can't really understand how anyone could become addicted to any of these things but neither can I understand feelings of strong antipathy to them! What does it matter anyway?

I like facebook - it's a great way to stay in contact, share photos and a free way of 'chatting' to my sister in Tanzania!

I suppose that this Forum is, in many ways, similar to Facebook, --- it is a vehicle for Chat, Complaint, Ridicule and Reminiscence.

We do have --- however -- our Moderstors, does Facebook have the same ?

No, but here, everything can be seen by everyone, on Facebook you can set privacy so only those you choose can see comments, photos etc. and you can also chat privately in real-time.
