Then be amazed as it is true x2 for me . Number three child doesn't have one.Perhaps that is why they give them one when they leave as they forgot to tell them to use the one they asked them to bring in the first place...

Although I had a prayer book I don't think I ever used it. I had been an altar boy (don't laugh - it's true), been there, done that etc. so I knew it all off by heart, even "Churching of Women"! I don't suppose any of the girls at CH know what they will be in for
I'm not sure if I even had a bible though just perhaps the Chain might have told us to paraphrase some obtuse bits of Ecclesiasticus (given that they quote all the begating and begetting so often each term)

By a strange coincidence whilst doing some family history research I actually discovered a parish record of a Churching, as referred to by sejintenej(?sp). i cannot believe that they would have happened frequently enough in your lifetime, David, for you to know the service by heart! Of course in olden times at Hertford we had to attend Matins and Evensong so we very quickly learned those two services by heart. To this day my body instinctively reacts by standing, sitting, kneeling etc at the appropriate times on the odd occasion that I attend such a service.

David, "churching of women" is an anachronism & has been phased out, I believe. After I gave birth to my daughter at St. Thomas's, the chaplain came round the ward looking for recruits for such a service. When asked why I declined, I replied that "Cleanse me, O Lord," didn't seem appropriate - in fact it was insulting. What sin had I committed that required a ritual washing away? He seemed both amazed and embarrassed that I was au fait with the liturgy (the benefit of a CH education!) and muttered something about "only giving thanks" - which was a teeny little porky & didn't enhance my estimation of him.

What about hire of the instrument, I'm not sure we could pay for our own double bass!
There are certainly loan instruments. My son decided to try an instrument just before Christmas and he was given a trial lesson, at the end of the lesson he was told to take the instrument home and have a go. He still has it and is learning well, I dare say we will buy our own in due course, if he continues to enjoy it, but at the moment it is on indeterminate loan from CH.

well seeing as the bible was only £2.40, I think we'll keep it, you never know, it might come in useful for crosswords/quizzes :D

I am now relieved we haven't got the financial declaration, I also thought we wouldn't get it until April, new tax year and all that.

The financial declaration usually arrives in the post sometime in March, but has different completion deadlines depending on whether you are employed, self-employed or unemployed. I have to say that I hate filling them in, because I can never find all the water rates, house insurance, council tax etc bills and have to turn the house upside down looking for them. I do set out to be more organised every year, but fail miserably.

The financial declaration form did not come directly from the school, but via the Governor who is presenting my daughter, maybe that's why we have it early.

Yes the idea of finding all that info again for the financial declaration is slightly off putting!!

I also suspect my lack of deposit sending may reflect my ambivalence and difficulty in deciding whether boarding school is the best option!!! Such a tough decision....

Could I (respectfully!) ask that you make your mind up sooner rather than later? There are several people who'd have no problems accepting an offer from CH, so if you really can't decide, then maybe your heart's not really in it? Just a thought, no criticism intended. :)
