Re: Parental Contribution
16% seems a huge increase - I was ear-wigging on a group of very well-off parents the other day at a swimming club meet who were grumbling about fee increases at the various London schools their off-spring were at and the biggest increase they could come up with was 7% (mostly they were between 2% and 5% increases) .... they were all pretty outraged at that, I dread to think what they'd have said about 16%!

Re: Parental Contribution
I take it that the full school fees haven't gone up by 16%?
Re: Parental Contribution
Ah, yes, I suppose you're right there! This isn't actually a visible increase in the stated fees the school charges, which is what the swimming parents were discussing, it's a more or less invisible adjustment to how CH calculate the bursary. Nothing in today's post for me either ... however, I think I may have found a solution ... sort of kills 2 birds with one stone as they say ... sell second child on e-bay ... then I don't have to worry about her educational needs in the future plus I can make a few quid. Mind you, is that along the lines of selling the family silver ... should I be patient and realize her earning potential? I could always sell my mother on e-bay but I'd worry about trades description. I think I'd get away with describing her as a sweet, silver haired old dear who's good at knitting ... but should I mention the dodgy hip, little yappy dog and her tendency to not "think" she's right in every way - but KNOWS she is?! Answers on a postcard ...
Never underestimate the power of a Mummy!

Or maybe rent them out, maybe to do chores or even at a monthly rate to teenagers - kind of a anti pregnancy thing, that way you don't lose your 'capital'
Maybe when intellegent CH educated children come home on their hoildays, they can tutor. Got to think outside of the box

How about a kidney on ice? Would have to have a very short auction time though, and express delivery via motorcycle courierlonelymom wrote:Nothing living is allowed to be sold on ebay, even my kidney and eyeball ads got removedcupcakemom wrote:Nothing in today's post for me either ... however, I think I may have found a solution ... sort of kills 2 birds with one stone as they say ... sell second child on e-bay

Re: Parental Contribution
I feel your pain Lonelymom. My assessment hasn't arrived yet but if yours has gone up by 16% then I expect mine will too.
Like you I have managed to pay my fees in 10 months leaving the summer fees for the summer. Guess can go to 12 months but what happens if fees go up by this much every year?
Pay is frozen, everything else is going up.
5 years left to go. This is a ridiculous position to be in. You sign up to a school for the duration of your child's education, not on a year by year basis.
Big sigh

Re: Parental Contribution
No, I don't think everyone's fees are going up by the same percentage, obviously my income and outgoings have caused my increase this year. I didn't know paying over 12 months was an option, I thought it was 10 months or termly? I hope my increase hasn't worried everyone, I'm sure you'll all be okay.

Re: Parental Contribution
Sorry for confusion - I meant that I have managed to pay 10 monthly out of my (10) monthly wages (beans on toast - sometimes virtual!) - leaving months 11 and 12 wage packets fee-free for the summer holidays but could 'borrow' on credit and pay from the 12 wage packets.
Does that make sense?

Re: Parental Contribution
I have told my son that he will have to look after me in my old age as I won't have any money left. I have also asked him for a yacht and a Ferrari. All of this he has agreed to!
So now I am reliant on C.H providing an excellent education that will give him maximum earning potential. I am steering him towards thinking of high earning jobs in the City, however at the moment his favourite subjects are P.E, D.T rugby and cricket! Oh well, it was a nice idea.

I have the same promise from dd, except my request was a modest cottage near to where she live (apparently she will employ me to be her nanny and house maid in return for the cottage!
She would like to be a Doctor so fingers and toes firmly crossed
Maybe I should ask for a car too.....

Re: Parental Contribution
Oh, I would definitely try and get the car thrown into the contract as well, maybe a Ferrari is a bit unpractical, not sure how many child seats (if any) you can get into a Ferrari. Something larger like a Bentley would be better.
