An interesting 3 line prayer !
I can't but help but think that the first line is a tad racist !

Reva Mann writes marvellously well about the mikveh in her book "The Rabbi's Daughter" which is one of the most marvellously funny/sad books I've ever read.
Ever!
and as for her account of the matchmaker who found her her Orthodox husband... beyond funny.

Re: Does anyone on this forum go to church?
I have just returned from an interesting experience: two adult male Iranians, formerly Moslem, were baptised by total immersion. Since this is not something we normally do in this parish, we 'borrowed' the pool at another local church. Although most of us did not know the two young men concerned there was quite a decent turnout from our church. It made me wonder why this has never happened before; we are currently in the middle of an interregnum; I wonder if the previous vicar had discouraged the practice? We have had a few adult baptisms, apart from those who were baptised immediately prior to confirmation, but the majority have been infants, and even they have often had to go through a service of thanksgiving and a period of 'probation' before the vicar would agree that the parents genuinely intended to raise their children as Christian. I agree that it should be more than just a naming ritual, but I was not amused when my grandson, visiting from Finland, could not be baptised here because he had not previously had a thanksgiving service. Surely this is neither in accordance with the Bible nor normal Anglican practice? He was eventually baptised in an Anglican service by a Lutheran pastor in Turku Cathedral - the mother church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland - his godparents were a mixture of Anglican, Lutheran and Roman Catholic. Deliciously ecumenical, and how I think it should be - nobody is baptised as an Anglican/Lutheran/Catholic etc, but as a Christian.

I got as far as this woman describing herself as 'America's best Christian' and switched off. Anyone who sees themself that way clearly isn't!!
A slight wobble yesterday - I was reading in church for the first time for ages (a long boring passage from Jeremiah) - having switched to varifocals the day before. Actually managed to do it OK, without even falling up the step onto the dais, but I was very nervous beforehand!

I'm in danger of going more often if Sentamu gets the top job instead of Chartres. God or Mammon?

I was going to ask Kerren if she advised the students to use false teeth, given the size of Wiki !
