KENYA

In some research on CH I have been told by a reliable source that for many years it was the custom for CH to admit one child every seven years (the average career cycle of one child at the school) from the European schools in Kenya. This was certainly reported to be the case in the 1930s. Does anyone know whether this is correct and, if so, how, why and when it started and when it ended - or does it, perhaps still contuinue?

I had a girl from Kenya in my year at CH - no idea of the circumstances behind her admission to the school though.

In my year (1965) there was a boy called Green from Kenya, I think he had a brother or brothers who pre-dated him at the school.

In Maine A we had Jeremy? Olver whose parents were based in Kenya I believe. He also had a younger brother who arrived during my time at the School.

I also remember Greene and yes he had an older brother at the School too.

I never heard anything about Kenya but in my day in Col A we had boys from Hong Kong and Ireland. (Remember that at that time we didn't have "civvies" and were required to wear full unifiorm until we got home.

Also there was a swap system whereby a boy would come for one year from the USA. I remember one boy in 1960/1 who was forboidden to play rugby on the grounds it was too dangerous, so he started a basketball craze.

Kent Chapman (Ma A and Th A 1965-1971?) was schooled in Kenya.
There is now no definite link, except one of my former House Tutors from Peele A, David Bryosn is heas at St.Andrew's School in Turi not far from Lake Nakuru.
