We hope to fly the Hot Air Balloon this evening at about 6 pm.
Depending on the wind direction we might make it over the school or even take off from CH.

Lots of people went to Sharpenhurst in the past - I believe they have now concreted over the entrance...

As for the water tower, it may well be for the next 6 months...

yep, i've been in. at first it was just a concrete slab over the top which needed about 3-4 people to budge, it took ian pinder about three seconds on his own. legend.
then they concreted the slab to the brick work, someone had a go at getting through it with a pick axe but to know avail. well, there is a tiny hole now, big enough to drop fireworks down but no-where near big enough to climb through.

I gather that somebody had walked up there a couple of days ago. Apparently, the entrance has been bricked over with breeze blocks but that somebody had been having a go with a pick axe and made a small hole.

Pondering the tube layout, J is convinced that there will be a service tunnel up there (see the rumour on the tube thread if it is still around) as he does not see how else the pipework to supply the school could have been maintained. This would be in accordance with the way the original builders used tunnels to the Sicker, station etc. to service the utilities. Of course, the tunnel might have been rather small ........

I was up there not that long ago - it is still blocked by the breeze blocks alas.

As for the water tower, it still has its hat of scaffolding but I think there is less than there was. I am hoping it comes down in time for my wedding reception the 3rd June!

there is no service tunnel entrance (blocked or otherwise) visible from inside the reservoir. if there is an entrance from the school/tube it will have been concreted shut with several meters of concrete (e.g. the old sporty tube near bockers flats).

Hot Air Balloons - A Great Experience...
We lifted off from 'Big Side', south of the cricket pitches, at about 8 pm, flew over Grecians West, between Thornton and Peele, over the tennis courts towards the railway station. The wind direction changed to the east and took us past the Main Gate over Doctor's Lake (Is it still called that?) and past the East Lodge.
A great trip, thoroughly recommended if you want a nice birthday present for your 70th...
