Blair has been in power?! I know he's not quite the socialist he made out he was, but surely he hasn't done as much to destroy it as Thatcher or Major!
As for your doctor being a lazy sod, it probably is just that. The vast majority of people with MDs seem to be, while the ones at the crappy end of the medical pay scale doing the much less glamourous jobs seem much more human. Such is life.

I also have a hunch that your GP is a bloke (my GP who acts just like yours is), women GPs seem a bit more willing to help.

my GP is a male - who strangely took time out to read all (and this means a great amount!) of my notes - that went back the full 22 years since I have been in Glos. His female partner just looked at what was on the computer screen - and wrote to the DLA that my asthma and Thyroid problems were under control...... and this has resulted in the DLA removing my benefits - which means I have a massive shortfall of nearly £400 per month until the appeal or new form is pulled back into being. Cerainly JR will understand the pressure I am under, the DLA forms are 42 pages of what I can only describe as the most intimate and embarrassing questions that in my case I have to asnwer yes to. It then requires you to tell the gov (DWP was SS etc...) how many times a day this mioght occur and then how many times a week. Once having been totally humiliated and feeling that suicide IS THE ONLY ANSWER as there is no quality in the life you lead, it takes up to 4 months for a reply.
Thankfully I have a social worker who is coming in to fill the form in for me later today, so don't expect anything from me for a couple of days as it will throw me into a deep pit of despair, which is where many people are today. I can no longer walk propperly due to an extra boney growth on my R heel - 10 years ago, I would have been whipped into our cottage hospital and under a light G.A. the surgeon would have removed the grown and put my heal back together again. Today, due to someone writing an article that maybe this isn't the best way to treat a heel spur, there is no treatment - and you are asked to suffer the pain until the body (may) eventually munch up the extra boney bit. However, as there is Arthritus as well - it is unlikely that the boey growth will go away so I will from now on hobble putting less weight on my right foor until of course it happens on the Left.
I am blessed with a GP who is Pro-active - he has his faults - but he is determined to make my life as comfortable and as good as it can be - there well may be lazy GP's - but from where I stand as an ex nurse, it is the MANAGEMENT OF HOSPITALS WHO HAVE NO MEDICAL TRAINING WHATEVER BUT HAVE EXORBITANT WAGES DUE TO HAVING A DEGREE IN BUSINESS MANAGEMENT WHO ARE CAUSING ALL THE PROBLEMS IN THE NHS. OK I was paid a pittance as a nurse, our hospital was run by ex doctors and Matrons and proffs of medicine who KNEW what was important and where the money should go. Since bringing in non medically trained people hospitals have gone downhill - partly as nurses now have "degrees" - I'm sorry if there are any nurses out there who have gone the "degree" path, but a ward was run by student nurses at the bottom and Matrons at the top, there was no MRSA, as we did the cleaning and if Matron wasn't impressed we did it again. Yes cheap labour - BUT it also meant that as a nurse you sure knew how to run a ward efficiantly and with respect to the patients. Recently I went into hospital where the charge nurse didn't speak English properly, and I had to help her with the wretched Drug trolley.. These are imported nurses who have no idea how to run a ward. I hope Mary will back me up on this - life was tough, but you never saw a messy bed, a dirty floor or an unhappy patient.
If this guy needs his op - he will get it - if he is wealthy he can get it done anywhere - if this thread is to actually discuss abortions and foetus removals then perhaps there should be some moderation as there are many very deep felt thoughts on that.
All I can say is that I do not approve of it as a method of contraception, however in cases of rape, the pill/morning after pill not working (which causes sever abnormalities) and other medical reasons where removal of the foetus from the females body, I can only agree. As for it being a man's decision - I am on the floor screaming with laughter - if only one of you men actually understood what it is that we females go through to have your child... you wouldn't say a peep as to whose word is final.
period.
