I think it's a minority but there was a small group of us down the Bax at lunch time on the last day of the summer term and there was a group of 'Hooray Henrys' or 'sloanes' who were celebrating their children leaving CH by quaffing champagne and generally being rude and obnoxious...

They were quite noticeable - I certainly don't remember parents doing that sort of thing when I was at C.H.

A few sandwiches in the back of the Cortina, if we were lucky!

I don't know what the hell the last bottle of Champers was, but the girl went to the cellar, came back up and enquired of the management about price.

The credit card bill on the till was just over £70.................

I was tempted to ask if I could have a bottle of Magners on the bill, seeing as they were pushing the boat out.

The food and overall drinks bill was over half a grand !

So CH must be rapidly becoming a two tier school.

What really p1ssed me off when was El Plumo and his lovely new wife were told by this group that they couldn't sit where they had sat down.

Would it have happened in my local ??

WOULD IT, BOLLOX !!

Actually it was very sad - everyone else's parent came, but as was teh norm I was owt .

Looking back I think life would have been a great deal better had I been allowed to stay on to the 6th form. However, I didn't. Went back for a CHOGA and was heavily pregnant with Chris - Miss Morrison was convinced I was going to drop it there and then! It would have been a 1st for the informary!!!

The scene; a sunlit square containing 5 pavement cafes, none of which over 33 percent full.

Two fellas and girl wearing engagement ring sit down at table in the sun. No sign of waiter for 15 minutes when owner arrives. They start order - "one white coffee, one ....."
interrupt; "you must have food if you sit in the sun. For drinks you must go in the shade." Owner leaves

Group get up, look round and go to another cafe.

Do you blame them? The owner is the only Brit to have a shop in the square; we sit in the square at least 4 times a week, wherever we want outside French owned places and spend between 60 and 90 minutes over a coffee with no hassle.

The owner also decided to rudely tell us a load of rubbish about what a "Croque Monsieur" is; claimed we would get what we want and what I got was not a croque monsieur (slice of ham on bread, covered with cheese concoction and put under the grill). The bill was 3 times over the odds and he was a lousy waiter in any case.

That was the first and last time there. The French know how to look after customers better
