Okay update time..........

This is day 2 09:45 and I am still free of cigarettes. The habit formed part of smoking is the hard part to deal with. I keep reaching to my left for a cigarette and then get mad at myself for doing that.
I have decided that I can't follow DBTS and say I am a non smoker just like that, I still want a cigarette but I am fighting it. I think I will always be a smoker who chooses not to have a cigarette.

I found that being in the same room as my wife while she smoked didn't upset me, it just brought on the urge to reach for a cigarette.

I have always said "oh well done Sean, time for a cigarette". What am I going to do for rewards now????

Only two ideas come to mind.........
...Ann, fancy some practice or
...Ann could you make some apple pies

The fight continues

You will fight on for a day or two yet ...... and then give up. You are putting yourself through unnecessary agony, Sean. You might as well have a ciggy now as in a couple of days.

Only when you know you are a non-smoker will it be easy to despise the habit. I turned from a smoker into a non-smoker in 20 seconds flat.

well all the time he's not smoking his health is slowly recovering.

Keep going Sean!

Keep yourself busy so you won't notice so much.

And don't go for the patches or lozenges. I have a friend who gave up smoking 3 years ago, took up nicotine lozenges and is still on 20 a day. She's still classed as a smoker for insurance purposes and she finds it very difficult to travel abroad as she has to take this great pile of tablets around with her. At least we don't get smoked on I suppose.

I don't think I have explained myself very well. I have no wish to join the rabid ex-smoker brigade. Every single one that I have met is a bit like a born again christian, way over the top! There are many ex-smokers who don't go on about it, they just don't smoke.

I would like to come out of this able to sit beside a smoker whilst they smoke and not be bothered by it. I really don't want to be in a stuation that limits the places I can go just because of a smell.

I do not mean to attack anyone for their beliefs or their way of coping with smoking, I have chosen my route and I will stick to it. I have accepted that I am like an alcoholic when it comes to smoking. I will always be one cigarette away from addiction. I am learning to face that head on. Perhaps it is because I am ex-Mid B, but it is the only way I know.

Oh no, now I'm going to be held up on charges of Mid B bashing. It was a joke. Mid B was full of smokers in my day, that's all!
