Of course, funny things can happen down here in Cornwall, but bearing in mind the high ethical standards imposed by our stern moderator (stern as in serious not like the back end of my boat) .......
There was a young lady from Bude
Who went for a swim in the Mediterranean
A shark, up it come
Takes a bite out of her left big toe
Don't you think it was terribly rude?

or a terrible happening at Stratton (just next door to Bude, in fact) ...
There was a young lady from Stratton
(Why is it always a young lady ....?)
Anyway (and in a proper Cornish accent).....
There was a young lady from Stratton
Went bathing with only 'er 'at on
The sun were so 'ot
She was burnt quite a lot
On 'er t*ts and the bits that she sat on.

Peele A (in the far western reaches of the Avenue) is to be the home of Jonathan when he leaves his beloved Cornwall to become a New Dep in September.
You should have heard my son squeal
When he heard he was going to Peele.
He said "'Tho I know
I'll have further to go
'Tis nearer to home that I'll feel."

Oh Dear! When the urge gets you, you don't seem to be able to stop it just pouring out! Anyway, this obviously pre-dates any rear extension or refurbishment when there were some diabolical outside bogs at the back of the houses.
Two Blues took two loos to Toulouse
(In case there were none there to use)
For learning at Housey
That however lousy
The loos, you can't always just choose to refuse.

Great to see all the contributions lately. I chose llimericks because they're short and concise- but the thread could be re named to include all kinds of verse. Perhaps there is a sonneteer out there who feels rejected . . . if so, please post anyway, especially if you have CH as your topic.Or . . .
to Hendrick
If you'd now like to make a new kind
Of a limerick without the grind
Do please go ahead
With a free versish thread
I am sure lots of people won't mind.
(and it seems lots of people look in here)

it's not for myself i complain,
but the others who feel some disdain,
such as JT or Plum,
or the other board-bums,
who find all this rhyming a pain.
It's not that i dislike the rhyme,
(it's fantastic for killing spare time),
but when they're on here,
it's not fair to jeer,
for 'not rhyming' is hardly a crime!

I was not aware that a jeerbut when they're on here,
it's not fair to jeer,
for 'not rhyming' is hardly a crime!
Had been mentioned re anyone here
Who hadn't had time
To create a good rhyme
So forget it and go have a beer.
Re all CH topics per se
that comment on things that we may
Have memories in mind
Whether cruel or kind
I hope to see lots more today
(or any time, but it rhymed!)

for julian's benefit:
it's not for myself i complain,
i'm not bitching for my sake
but the others who feel some disdain,
i'm bitching for those other poor sods
such as JT or Plum,
JT=you, plum=Great plum
or the other board-bums,
or the other people on here
who find all this rhyming a pain - or would if they even bothered trying
It's not that i dislike the rhyme,
i have nothing against rhyming
(it's fantastic for killing spare time),
rhyming is, infact, a good way to kill time
but when they're on here,
but when JT/Plum/other non-rhymers view this thread
it's not fair to jeer,
we shouldn't take the piss
for 'not rhyming' is hardly a crime!
as it's not the end of the world if they ain't sh1t-hot at poetry (IMHO)
apologies if it was a little too cryptic for you (
), next time i'll write it in HTML

It's not that I'm slow and dim-witted -
it's those against which I am pitted,
who all have the skill
to show that they will
produce better rhymes that this really poor effort at a lymeric...
