Postal Scam

Post by cj »

This is something that came through the e-mail this morning. Is it genuine and has anyone else had it?

Can you circulate this around especially as Xmas is fast approaching - it has been confirmed by Royal Mail.

The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a premium rate number). DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize. If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the phone call. If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 02072396655 or ICSTIS (the premium rate service regulator) at http://www.icstis.org.uk (http://www.icstis.org.uk/) or your local trading standards office. This is a genuine scam and is under investigation by ICSTIS.

I haven't heard about it - I assume that there must be somewhere on the net that will tell you this. If in doubt, contact your local post office.

Thanks. I never can tell whether messages that come unsolicited through the e-mail are genuine or not. We have so much rubbish to wade through every day, but I don't want to be stung for £15 by some charlatan in Belize.

I heard about this a couple of months ago and it is definitely a scam (the card not the warning!)
