Advertisements and Funding in The Old Blue

Post by jhopgood »

The funding for the Old Blue comes from the income on the remnant funds of the CH Club passed over to the CHA, supplemented by funds from the budget of CHA itself.
So far we have done ok, working within a tight budget, but the time will come with rising costs outstripping income, when life will not be so easy. Also, the CHA budget is ceded by the Foundation, and has to justify its worth, so there may well be other more important demands on the CH budget.
On another thread there have been comment about advertisements in the Old Blue, and although the potential cash crisis is still some way off, it would be useful to think of other ways of funding the Old Blue magazine.
This is an opinion finding trip, as these things need debate and consideration before being put into effect, which with two editions a year, cannot be done overnight.

You can only place one vote, I would vote yes to all, those who can afford it could pay and students and people on JSA or whatever could have it free.

As I posted on the original thread I would prefer no adverts. The only exception would be if other financial constraints prohibited the production of the magazine which, from John's post above, could happen in the forseeable future.

If adverts do become necessary then I would prefer them to come from Old Blue or CH friendly sources if possible.

I also would have no objection to paying £5 - £10 a year if it meant the magazine could be free to students and others suffering genuine financial hardship however that may be defined.

I've not voted in the poll above as my preferred option is none which is not shown.

I'm sure the Blue in its 'old' format used to have back page adverts from the armed forces...

My experience with the Blue is that major companies want to be associated with CH and are happy to pay for an advert (which in effect is a means of making a donation). Given the fact that the Old Blue goes worldwide and the majority of Old Blues are earning above the national average they are even more likely to work with you.
