The Blue

Just like to register my thanks to David for producing the section entitled Leavers and Old Blues, 11 pages that fit in very well with the rest of the over 100 page magazine.
I have not received the printed version but by devious means have managed to sight what I assume was the final pre print version.
Your pages compare well to the rest.
It is probably not for comment in this thread, but assuming the adverts I saw went in, and some of the text was not changed, I get the impression that it is directed at a non CH audience.
I would have thought explaining what Outlook is would be irrelevant to Blues and Old Blues alike, despite the fact that Outlook has appeared and disappeared over time.
Similarly, an advert for BMW cannot be directed towards the present pupils, unless their circumstances have changed a lot since I was at CH.
(BTW, does anyone think we should have adverts in the Old Blue?)
Anyway, back to the magazine, it looks pretty good, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to know what happened in CH and the OB community last school year.

5 ads I think - 2 banks (RSB , Barclays) one BMW (slaes, servicing and repairs!), one Bluecoat Pond /English Courtyard Housing, and a "pay school fees monthly " one (HTC)!

I would prefer no adverts. The only exception would be if other financial constraints prohibited the production of the magazine.

Perhaps JR can remember who the Col B pupil was who left in his own (allegedly) AC Aceca in 1960. I wouldn't afford one of those even now.

One has to be realistic. These things do cost money to produce even if much of the labour is given free and if the adverts can be reasonable then one needs to have them. OTOH I wouldn 't be too happy with adverts for certain foodchains and food products, places of ill repute. etc.

I never got round to ordering one. The formal and dictatorial 7 October deadline felt a bit sensitive to me for lots of other reasons.
Are they still available?

The only person I can think this might be was one of the first American exchange students, a guy named Flynn, who I swabbed for. Quite a nice guy when you got to know him. He came from a very well to do family across the pond.

On the subject of BMW's, I have one on my drive at the moment. It's a 7 Series and belongs to youngest daughter. OK - It's quite old, but she and her fella have just upgraded to a Mercedes !

your worries are without foundation. I received my Blue yesterday and enjoyed the "Old Blue" pages.

I am however concerned by the amount of G and T allegedly being consumed by yacht skippers in the English Channel.

It's in The Blue so it must be true

I hope those who read the Blue will enjoy it. We do have adverts but all the advertisers work with the Foundation and together they contribute several thousand pounds towards the cost of publication. We would never use a company that was involved in something inappropriate such as junk food. We have deliberately tried to take the whole thing upmarket and this goes for the Old Blue too. We have largely succeeded in this and I am happy with the result. Having read the mags of a large number of schools the CH mags are superior to the vast majority.

One major problem remains the ability for all Old Blues to see one. We have chosen not to give one to all Old Blues (that would cost about Â£20,000). What we could do is offer a copy of a Double CD to all Old Blues (c.70p per copy). This would be a CD of Music and another CD version of the magazine that you could look at on a PC/Mac. We would only print a few copies for archives and on demand.

What do you think? Is this a step too far. I really want the OB community to have access to all three mags and at the moment we are not willing to do this as a full copy.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.
