Gently remove about four of the boards and watch him disappear through the ensuing hole !

There was a name for the trick of setting all the boards so that they fell through when a weight was put on the bed.... Can't think of the name, perhaps I am getting old!
But I do remember the bath full of cold water, filled the night before, with the 'lav end' windows left open all night in the winter! We had to jump in and submerge straight after getting out of bed in the morning... I was never the first one in, usually waited for most of the water to be cascaded over the top by the previous 'bathers'. That was when I first learned what a nano second was.
Strange though, when I think back.... we had the cold bath full to the top but if you wanted a hot bath there was a short black line painted on the inside of the bath about 5 inches above the plug hole - you were not allowed to fill the bath above that level!

In my House (2) in Hertford, there were the remains of little bits of red ribbon attached to the bath plug chains - I recall that you were not allowed water above the ribbon and that it was set at 4" from the bottom of the bath.
Would not even cover the back of my legs now......

This is mostly a question for those who go to CH currently or left recently.
Is it possible to take on all four of your AS choices to A2?. They say that you take three A2s but it also says around the site that some people took four A levels. So, would it be possible not to drop a subject and carry on with them all?

I know how you are feeling about going to CH as a newbie... That was me two years ago! It took me a little while to settle in, as most people had already been there for 5 years, but I made friends really quickly and quickly found myself with no spare time due to all the extra-curricular stuff that I threw myself into...!
I had an amazing 2 years, and it was a really good stepping stone for coming to Uni this september.
I found all its traditions really interesting, and slightly daunting occasionally.... like doing the reading in chapel!! !! (but that was voluntary... needless to say, I was shaking in my DMs...!)
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Any questions on settling in, feel free to msg me, but I'm sure you'll find your feet quickly... I know I did!

The only people i knew who ended up with four a levels were those that took further maths as that counted as two a levels (show offs! )

Oh, and in regard to your q. about how many you can take at A2- most people take 3- its plenty enough... only people who are slightly deranged take 4... i.e. mathematicians... they sometimes take 3 maths a-levels, plus two others... insane..! My advice would be don't, not unless you are setting your sights really high.... I think the school would generally advise you not to take four into A2 as well, because it just gets too much, and they like you to spend extra time doing sport or extra-curricular stuff (which is actually really good...).

I think you can take 4 A-levels if you really stand out academically and you can timetable it all in - sometimes this isn't possible though. But most people doing 4 A-levels are those doing further maths. And to be honest, you want to have time to have a life too...

Ah, Right. That's good to know. I'm not taking maths and I would never take it in my wildest dreams so I'll probably be happy with the three. It's going to be work enough and it's very true that I also want a life.

Everything is so exciting at this stage, mainly because we are getting so close to the exams and everyone is worrying about getting good enough grades to actualy get into their schools. The worst thing ever would be not getting good enough grades, though I highly doubt that will happen. I've got my tracking next week and im quivering. I don't want to know the newest set of predicted grades.
What are the best extra curricular activities and how many different ones do you take on, on average?.

You`ll get a form to fill in each term to give your options from what`s available - the number and range of actives varies from year to year. things like , D of E, Community action, various sporting activities, cookery , Russian , needlecraft, astronomy, human rights, ..... .....etc, etc... depends what staff are prepared to offer really! I`m not sure how many you chose at Deps level - no doubt someone out there will tell you!! Of course, choir, orchestra, band, etc are extra to the "compulsory " actives. You`re bound to find something of interest!

Myself and many of the other BaB girls religiously took term after term Aerobics on a thursday, house leagues on monday when the school teams were training! Although I was in the tennis team in the summer term! And on our grecians we had to a compulsory double lesson of something on a monday again we all took aerobics!

In the junior dorm, we had to take the obligatory cold bath every morning, but only in the summer term.

I can't remember the term for bed-board removal.

However, there were the usual 'apple-pie' beds, folding the bottom sheet back from the bottom and tucking into the top head board.

'Skiffing' beds of someone who had annoyed you, by dashing up to the bed and shooting the mattress sheets and blanket onto the floor from the bed boards.

It looks as if life got a bit soft after I left CH in 1952!

(I am sorry that Gemma's thread is going a bit OT. As I am one of the posters who has complained about threads going OT in the past I now find myself doing it.... life is really difficult sometimes. )
