Long time since I've ventured on here.
Good times.

I'm about to do my exams and that's all well and boring. I still don't know anything about what house I will be in, but I will post that as soon as I get a letter. It will be nice to hear some things about where exactly I will be staying.

I am getting braces though. Which is rather annoying since I will 99% be wearing them for most of my time at CH. I think CH has a dentist but is it ok to leave the school for dentist appointments if your appointments are in london?.
I'm sure that the orthodontist at CH was on comission for the number of braces - about 70% of the school had them...

the dentist at ch is lovely, i still go to him although i have left the school. As for orthodentist im not sure who that is, i had braces prior to me joining CH and had the most horrific experience with my orthodentist

I'm nearly positive that the orthodontist (sorry for spelling) used to be a guy called Rook-Matthews who lived down in worthing. I had to go to his house once outside of school term for an appointment and remember it being Huge. As Great Plum says, loads of people had them at CH.

I would stay on your Dentists books but visit the CH dentist and explain to your dentist the situation.

I did, then as soon as i left CH went back to my local dentist

Great. I'm going to talk to my dentist about it on friday, since I have another apointment.

Quick question. How often does one actualy play sport at Christ's Hospital. I looked at the 'timetable' on the website but it is nearly impossible to understand. I was wondering about that and those mysterious games and activities.

Is it also possible to change one of my subjects?. I'm pondering the possibility of changing archaeology to French but I'm not sure.

QUESTION FOR JOHN H.

What was the name of the butcher that doubled as a school dentist in our day ?

I had to have emergency treatment in Horsham one night because of him !

Sport is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday is CCF, Friday and Saturday although i'm not sure about Tuesdays, I know on one of the afternoons you have a choice of what you do. I think on the Deps it might be more lenient (someone else will prob be able to confirm). Few words of warning. Get your sick note ready for Easter term and the dreaded steeple chase. In the Michaelmas term, you have lessons until lunch, then games and i think lessons then begin again at around 4.30 in the afternoon. God thats brought back some memories, trudging around in the wet and dark between lessons after rugby.

On the bases of changing subjects, i would talk to the school as soon as possible, to talk about options of changing.

Gemma, the sooner you make your final decision about subjects the better as everything needs to be timetabled ready for your visit later this term.

The name Pearson or perhaps Pearsall rings a bell from my time.

I'm a youngster though compared to you

Your right, Mid A.

Definitely one of those names. Failed to spot an erupting abscess. I never did forgive him.

The thing is, I'm not entirely sure whether of not I want to change my options. I know that I have changed my mind and want to take Latin at A2 instead of Archaeology but I have not made up my mind about whether or not I want to take it at all anymore.

I am thinking about swapping it for either French, Maths or R.E. I'm not sure at all though. WIll I be able to change what i'm doing for A2, as in switch the one I am dropping when I am at CH.

This is so annoying, I had all of my subjects planned out and then I started not wanting to do Archaeology as much. damn it.

Don't worry too much about the sport, Gemma - as Peter says, on the Deps year it seems quite lenient. Jonathan was no sportsman, but found that he actually liked doing things he had never tried before - e.g. clay-pigeon shooting (at which he now excels), fives (which he had never even heard of before), badminton and water polo (played for his house in his deps year in spite of being a complete novice), etc etc. He never needed to buy any rugby shirts or cricket gear because he never played either. Just used his normal games kit from his old school. As for the steeplechase, he missed it in his deps, but was persuaded to give it a go this year - and performed not well, but adequately finishing, to his surprise, no worse than about half way down.

As for the archeology, I would stick with it if you have some interest - the teaching is excellent and the results among the very best in the UK. Also some very interesting foreign trips - e.g. Egypt. If French really is your thing - and you do seem something of a linguist - then you should make up your mind and write now. Classes are already being designated and there will be less room for adjustment the later you leave things.

I'm pretty sure that the clay pidgeon shooting is out for me, I have a squint in my right eye so I cant aim rifles. A huge annoyance when I was in air cadets.
I'm sadly not the biggest fan of sports. I enjoy it but for me it is usualy the fact that I ahve the drag the kit to school and then change and then the whole locker shambles. It's more annoying than anything. I'm sure I'll pick up lots of new sports. But not squash. I'm totaly rubbish at it.

Decided on maths. I will about 70% chance change arch to maths. then my subject choices will be. English, History, Latin and Maths.

You may find you're OK with clay shooting, depending on your eye dominance - give it a go, you can shoot with both eyes open, and it's less of a case of "aiming" as such....more about following the line of the bird and shooting in front....

Good luck!
