Just had a text from hubby "This Rovers 'til I die malarkey may come sooner than I expected after a match like that."
"If a man speaks, and there isn't a woman to hear him, is he still wrong?"

It makes me quite sad really - I'd love to have in laws like you JR. I know I don't know you at all but you sound fun and family orientated.

I had a friend whose parents lived over the road from her and her family and they never saw each other and had very little to do with her two boys. If I were in that situation I'd keep up with relentless invitations to tea, parties, walks, school plays etc. My husband's first set of in-laws are as much family as the others so I don't hold with notions of blood being thicker than water etc. Everyone will be with us for Easter, a gathering of the clans. I love having a house full and the kids adore seeing everyone together and having fun. These years are so precious and so fleeting. Maybe your in-laws feel they can't compete with your parents, Vonny?

I don't think it's that at all - they have no idea what my parents give the girls or when they see them. They're just weird, seriously weird. Will bend over backwards to help their church mates out but when it comes to their own flesh & blood they don't give a sh*t.

The last time we were round there (for about 2 hours) we didn't even get a cup of tea! For Xmas this year we got a small box of chocolates from Boots BETWEEN THE TWO OF US!!! Now I know there's more to Xmas than receiving etc etc but I thought that was pretty damn tight!

And as for not phoning on their grand daughters birthday & Xmas!!! Makes my blood boil.

I could go on but I won't

I agree. I wouldn't ever stop the girls seeing them if they want though but personally I wouldn't care if I never saw them again!

I've just realised that in around 12 years I have NEVER sampled mils cooking! In fact I've only ever had one tea round there and that was corned beef sandwiches! Image

That must make your husband feel quite sad. I know I would be if my parents weren't interested in my children. Even though the eldest is technically my step-daughter, they have always treated her as their family too and like their 'own' grand-daughter.

Yes - he can't understand them either. Mind you - he doesn't care for much of his family. Especially his sisters. now there's another story.......

What a week-end !

Eldest Grand-Daughter, Zara (16) and her sister, Sharna, (12), INSISTED on staying the whole weekend with us.

We all ended up at youngest daughters yesterday evening, so all four cousins, two daughters, and respective partners sat in the garden, drinking copious amounts of alcohol, (well, the adults did), eating bar-b-qued chicken, burgers and God knows what else till tiredness took over.

Tea served in bed this morning - What else could one ask for.

Close family ties ? - I love 'em !!

Oh well, sandwiches must be better than nothing.

Just returned from a very hot friendly footy match with the Under 13's Girls, which we lost but ended up in the clubhouse with a birthday party for one of our girls with BOTH SIDES invited and staying for a great afternoon.

That's what sport is all about.

The Stella for the adults was excellent !

Sounds more appealing than tea with the in laws

What about the fly cemetery biscuit? And presumably you couldn't use its alter ego as that would be offensive to follicly-challenged men named Gary??
