I love Caecilius.

It's quite amusing because everyone that I know who has learnt latin at school, the first thing anyone says is something on the lines of 'Caecilius est pater'. I love those books. It's an awful shame though because we had to rush through the books in about a year and a bit instead of spending the amount of time you are supposed to on them so we really have no idea what happened right at the end of the books.

Are the still using that? My abiding memories of Clive Kemp (RIP) are of him jumping off some very large rocks in the Alps on DofE expeditions and trying to teach me noun declensions (?) as a squit.

I can picture him now in the corner of his classroom in the prep block, with Gaz (John) Carrington's dad booming out of the window of the classroom next door as someone else was late for his lesson.

We got another letter yesterday, it was the financial information so we can finally send that off. It also gave info about the Guild of the Freemen of the City of London but it didn't actualy tell us anything of substance about it. What does being a presentee actualy mean?. I think I've asked this before but I was hoping that someone could give me some more info about it, does being a presentee mean I have to do anything differently at C.H or do I even have to wear one of those metal badge things, I'm not sure who does or doesn't precisely.

It's not long now so I'm getting a bit more nervous. This is a really random question but how much stationary would one recommend bringing. I will probably bring too many pens etc.

Also,

Does CH do, in GCSE Latin, Roman Life topics or Paper 3?. This probably means nothing to quite a few of you but I was curious. I'm doing paper 3 but I wondered which CH does.

p.s. I got my hair cut really short today, I mean, really short. I only realised after that short hair looks rubbish with the uniform.

It's not long now. Until I both finish my exams and I arrive at Christ's Hospital entrance for my induction week.
I've barely had a moment off from revision or sneakily avoiding revision by watching Big Brother but I need a rest at the moment.
I have 3 exams tomorrow and I just hope they go as well as the ones I have already completed have gone. Spanish was a total disaster but if placing that away from my current thoughts as much as I can and I will just have to wait for August 23rd

For the Induction week, does a parent have to come on the first day because it is lookign increasingly likely that neither of my parents will be able to find the time off work to come. I know that there are tonnes of forms to hand in etc but could I jsut do that myself? and will I definitely be able to change my subject to Maths if I show I have proficiency because I have not been replied to the email I sent about changing subjects. Do you think I should send anotheror will that be impudent?

we are just starting them here (A Levels) but it is not too bad and people are fairly confident.

Absolutely not, Gemma - of course you can cope on your own.

Jonathan went up from Cornwall on his own for the induction - the beginning of the Michaelmas term with all his luggage was another matter!

I suspect there will be no problem about changing subjects once you get there - the staff are probably waiting until you all arrive before getting the final subject allocations sorted anyway. If you want, there is nothing to be lost by dropping an email saying that you have not heard from them, but quite understand that they may be waiting to sort things out at induction.

I wouldn`t worry about changing subjects - some people still decide to change in November!

Oh Thanks for the answers.
I'll probably be going on my own, or with my sister. Though there is no way I am going to manage without my mother in september to bring everything.
Exams are lousy. Well, all exams are lousy no matter where you go but mine are particularly lousy. The exam hall is boiling hot and a greenhouse due to the whole wall of windows. I think I did ok in most of them. Probably a lot better than ok to be honest but I'll save my judgement for August. !!!

I nearly ripped my hair out during Latin today. It was the third part. The stupid bit of literature. The hard Language paper which I did instead of Roman life topics was good. I finished quickly and did as best as I could for someone who had only been taught for two years with Roman Life topics instead of that. But the blooming Lit paper ( Pliny ). My table broke. It actualy fell apart during the exam and I had to switch tables not before my exam went flying and I fell over. My pens went in every direction and I made the hugest racket.

I'm definitey going to change subjects. Yay for English, History Latin and Maths. Is the induction week when you pick to do Italian etc? Or is that september. When do you pick sports aswell? and how many do you get/have to take.

I envy the people doing exams at CH. students there don't have that worry that your bus is going to get stuck in a traffic jam and you are going to unfortunately fail due to non-attendance.

Hello Gemma. Since you're going to be in my year next term (unless I'm simply being more blonde than ginger and getting confused - very likely!), I thought I'd reply. Forgive me if everything I've said has already been said...

This year is rather odd, since IIRC there are no male new deps due to the "girlification" of Thorn. On the other hand, that does mean that there will be a lot of you being new, so it's ok! The New Deps Induction Week lasts for a week until the last Wednesday of Term, if I remember rightly, and as Mark said back on Page 1, has the Rock Concert etc. I believe it also includes auditions for Schola Cantorum, etc, so that new deps can try for it as well.

When you arrive, usually around marching-time, you'll probably be greeted by your houseparents, etc, and you may well receive some odd looks. Don't worry, they're just people wondering "Are they the new deps?" I expect you'll be taken around by others in your year (Don't know how this would work in Thornton since I believe most, if not all, are new) to see things. There'll be tea etc, and I believe NDIW also includes sports day this year - so that is often a good time to meet others on your year, though I've no doubt that Dr. Wines will be doing meetings for the New Deps.

I must say now that you are very lucky: The "I'm a new Dep and couldn't find my way" excuse is terrific! It works for being late for most things, but probably only for the first few times...

Oh. It's two weeks now. Two weeks today and I'm so excited. My Exams are nearly over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only 4 left.

I can't wait to be able to actualy write about actualy being there and post pictures of the place which I personaly took. YAY
