The Christ's Hospital Chain Quiz
For those few who don't know what a Chain Quiz is, here's how it works. I'll ask a question, and if you get it right, I'll say, and then you ask a question etc. Simple!
Q: The two types of belt worn by CH pupils are Broadies and Girdles. What was the original name of the Girdle, and why?

Unfair to Hertford Girls. Unless blessed with a Horsham friend/relation, however would we know?

Anyway, deprivation of CH uniform very sore point!

Well this Hertford girl had a Horsham father and brother and still doesn't have a clue!Angela Woodford wrote:Unfair to Hertford Girls. Unless blessed with a Horsham friend/relation, however would we know?
I fear that even any questions that WE would find really easy such as 'How many Boarding Houses were there at CH Hertford, most of the time it was an all girls school?' are now confined to our memories and Ancient History; as such they are considered irrelevant to today's CH.

This Quiz
I'm not suggesting that WE should question today's CH pupils about Hertford life and ritual.
Only lamenting that WE can't participate in this Josh Quiz!

Memories
But at least, dear cj, you had the opportunity to know.
The postwarblue question - again unanswerable to us, Josh
I don't feel, Katharine, considering the age of the School, that Hertford memories should be regarded as Ancient History. There are hundreds of Old Girls with lives shaped by that regime - grim/funny; and that Hertford School life shouldn't be forgotten - well, at least we who reminisce have left various vivid memories which are of value to each other, even if irrelevant to modern CH pupils - although interest is sometimes shown by our male contemporaries. We still all had the same Charge and were and are part of the same Foundation.

Re: Memories
I quite agree with you, Munch. I certainly don't think it should be forgotten. I just fear that in the future it will be. At least they (whoever they are) can never take away the fact that the first name on the register is that of a girl!Angela Woodford wrote:I don't feel, Katharine, considering the age of the School, that Hertford memories should be regarded as Ancient History. Is "forget us?" part of the chain quiz? I seem to have lost the drift somewhere here .....
Isn't it strange how the female sex always manages to muddy the waters to the utter confusion of us, mere men?
Eve started it .........
