Thanks one and all. I had hoped to get down for the Scout camp fire but unfortunately everything possible went wrong on Saturday! Sorry, Josh.Angela Woodford wrote:Back from Old Blues Day -

When we got here some friends were due to meet us and we would then go to the (very posh) airport restaurant for lunch. The friends arrived but the restaurant was a no go; fully booked. The next place on the list was closed for some reason so we started cruising and found what looked like a beautiful restaurant right on the canal side - you saw the Canal du Midi on the cookery programmes?
Trouble was there was one waitress and one cook and of the 20 or so people there before us not one had got served. Back on the road. Then my friend Ian remembers a place which has been recommended but he had never been to so we set off to find it.
Yes, nice place, a Logis de France (a chain of hotels owned and run by the individual managers) with a half full restaurant - and all French which seemed a good sign. Big party next to us celebrating a little girl's first communion and a few couples - mostly getting on in age.
The menu was preceded by a blackboard showing the Fete des Peres (Father's Day) special menu at about 18 euros (that's £10.80) a head.
Welcoming cocktail
Pate de foie gras, semi-cooked and cooked, with Mango
Duck chop OR (I forget) OR (I forget) plus veggies
Cheese (selection of 3 good ones) (comes before pud in France)
Dessert - chocolate or death by chocolate or a host of other fattening goodies
and enough lovely walnut bread to make everyone slaver at the chops.
So, what with two half bottles of wine we had an extremely good lunch for almost nothing!
As for the waitreses, JR - you are not coming here!
A slight problem this morning; we heat the water with an immersion heater ( cheap over here) but I forgot to switch it on last night. This morning SWMBO gets in the shower and turns it on. OUCH .......... (censored). I merely remarked that I couldn't see a problem - she would be used to it if she also had been a a pubic school. Our radiators were about that temperature in winter - the showers were properly cold
Anyway, thanks for the good wishes. Sorry I couldn't come but next time - that will be in 2017 I assume?
David
Having more money doesn't make you happier. I have 50 million dollars
but I'm just as happy as when I had 48 million.

I'm so sorry to have missed it, David. You were with us in spirit on Sunday, I'm sure!
It was great to meet other forumites though - Munch, Maggie, J.R etc whom I'd never met before as well as God (JT), RR, Josh - I went to the Scout camp fire in Shelley Wood (thanks Josh) - and so many others. Great fun!
