I wondered if any males would come into this discussionm I wish all men were as understanding as you JR.

About 5 years ago I snapped at my husband over something (probably he hadn't done) and he went "menopausal are we?" I said "You may be, I finished 5 years ago". I sailed through at 43 with nary a hot flush or anything, a family trait as both my Ma and Grandma had been the same age.

Admittedly, we have an absolutely brilliant G.P. He's younger than both of us, (but then again, most people are these days). Always first name terms all round. He specialised in neurology before going into general practice and as Jan is fighting MS, they understand each other well.

The other thing is, he has an fantastic sense of humour, not unlike mine, so you get the gist !

I am finally into menopause at 54 - and have hardly noticed it ( no hot flushes or mood swings, bar the normal congenital bl**dy-mindedness), apart from the obvious lack of a period for several months. The only real symptom has been an awful weight gain - but since my OBGYN doesnt know whether this is menopausal or linked to the fibromyalgia, I can't really chalk it down to age. But the end of enslavement to my womb is a blessing in any light !

Oh how I agree, not that mine ever bothered me.

Just come off HRT after many years-I don't feel any different-I just got fed up with taking so many pills (for rheumatoid arthritis) that one fewer was a blessing.

Absolutely, Barbara! Quite right!

And in your case, once glamorous, always glamorous!

Even in our sealed world, the craze had reached us! I was in the LV at the time - that must have been 1967? Most afflicted were the LIV.

The Monkees were an American manufactured group, put together in a Dick Lesterish sort of way. It must have been a srt of apres Hard Days Night US answer to the Beatles. There was lugubrious Mike Naismith, always wearing a woolly hat; slightly Scandinavian Peter Tork the blonde one; Davey Jones, cute and dark, the little English one from Lytham St Annes, and Mickey Dolenz, slightly familiar from being in an American series called "Circus Boy", in which he rode weekly on an elephant. Only now he was bigger and had swapped the elephant for doing a group walk, down the street, getting the funniest looksfrom, everyone they might meet! Hey hey! etc.

Week after week, the foursome rescued each other from floods, appeared to not be able to make the gig on time, fell in love with the same beautiful girl. did speeded up antics on beaches - sometimes with surfboards involved.

We in the LV had sufficiently abandoned our more senior dignity to pin up the centrefold from Rave Magazine

etc., etc......

And now, girls, it's The Monkees revisited!

Turn on your trannies to Radio 4 at 1030hrs on Saturday for reminiscences of those fabulous days!

Yet another example of how the English language has changed. That is shorthand for transistor radio, for the younger ones.

I think it still is Annie, but J.R.s pun is very funny.

Oh no Annie, it wasn't a wrist slap, now my post just looks ridiculous and pathetic,
