Angela used the word "sportive" in a recent entry, when 99% of us these days would have said "sporty". Many English words seem to be going out of fashion.

Quite agree. I cringe when I hear people talking about 'Haitch En Dee' (HND).
And a friend of mine who can't say 'tongue' but says 'tong' - and our vicar who aspirates every 'h' inside a word ' Whhho art in Heaven....'
I read about an actress of a certain age who will go out with younger men, but they have to pass the 'Spangles' test. i.e. be able to remember them, so no-one TOO young.
