I've got a new job...

Post by Great Plum »

No more Kuoni for me after tomorrow!

The reasons for leaving are far too numerous to mention here, suffice to say that there was some clash with the management and i felt it best to look elsewhere... (and no, it wasn't to do with my net use!)

I have a new job, which I will start on Monday week, as a Senior Support Officer in the planning department of reigate and Banstead Borough Council... (Basically, I'm running the admin side of things!)

I'm looking forward to this as it should mean that I use some of what I learnt in my Geog degree. It's also got no weekends, more money and I can walk to work! :-)

Congratulations, Matt!
Looks good from all perspectives (though I guess you might miss some foreign travel?). Anyway - good luck in the new job.

Sounds like you're on a winner all round apart from the odd cheap holiday!

You've probably learnt where to find them now anyway.

Good luck!

Yes, the only thing I will miss are the cheap holidays - but you are right, I know where to look anyway!

And now that you are no longer a part of that organisation, how about sharing your "cheap hols" tips with us lesser-privileged mortals ???

Well I'm still here (last day!) but often the best thing is to organise it yourself and do not use travel agents!

That seems about right; look round for the cheapest flights (those in the papers are not always the cheapest) and then you can often arrange accommodation separately - even over the internet.

We have done South Africa and Australia / New Zealand that way using agents only for those bits which were too complicated for us (a trip from Cairns to Uluru to Brisbane with accomodation is the one time I can remember). In ANZAC we used backpackers hostels and YHA even though at the time we were both well over 60 - absolutely incredible value and we met all sorts of people who were able to point us to other possibilities like free bus services and meals. We booked first night in each country in advance and then ran from there. I won't claim $10 per day - we like our luxuries like our own room and hire car - but certainly not expensive.
There is one seriously major problem doing it this way - choosing which of 10 million places to go to.

Not necessarily for those with young children.
Having more money doesn't make you happier. I have 50 million dollars
but I'm just as happy as when I had 48 million.

That's fine... to be honest, I only rinse my use of the net here as I have so little work!
