I do kind of agree with you gemme about your effort thing and grades. I worked really hard at school, put a lot of effort in and all my coursework was of grade B occasionally C. When it came to exams though, i fell apart, it wasnt that i couldnt answer anything, i wrote essays that were pages long. But being so aware of the time pressure i panic about what to write-would start and then loose thought of arguement. Therefore in the end i came out with lesser grades because i fell at the exam hurdle.

As for your parents telling everyone, dad was in hospital on the day a levels came out and so had to ring to leave a message with the nurse so that when he came round he knew what i got. When i went to see him later he had told just about everybody in the hospital!

Hope you have a good celebration tonight if not at the weekend :)

Gemma,
The above quote is from page 8 of this thread... it seems a long time ago. :o
Just curious... How did your friend do in the exams and is she still going to stay on at your old school?

Oh right.
My Freind is still not sure about whether she's coming. She came to the induction week and I know that she loved it. I really want her to come but there might be reasons that I don't know about as to why not. I'll find ot on the second probably :)

Awwww, Amy!. It's so sad that it's such a common problem. I fugged up on my mock mocks and literally the results were horrendous. Were you happy with your results in the end though?.
The most important thing is whether you're happy with results of everything, it's why many people open results on their own and then make up their mind before their opinion gets warped by others opinions.

On a slightly less related note. I would still advocate the abolishment of Coursework.

I was thinking, Gemma, about your family and Bingo. And then it came to me that this is just the right word for you and your achievements at GCSE. BINGO! Full House!
Congratulations again. Whether or not your friend takes up this chance of a lifetime offer, I hope that you yourself will not only be very happy but will flourish at Christ's Hospital.

YARRRRRRRGGGGGG

When josh sees that comment he will fall off his chair again. He knows how much I hate Bingo!!

But thanks for the comment :)

I really think I will flourish at Ch, especially in academics because I'm a student that needs to be pushed since I procrastinate like crazy. It will be nice to have time set aside in a day that will force me to do work. I must be the only person who actualy is glad there is allocated prep time.

I was only using the language, not implying that you like Bingo. I can't stand it myself.....!
And I look forward to hearing about how you have sweated over Prep... etc. etc.. etc........
Hard work ahead, I think. But it looks as if you are up for it! Good luck to you.

It may be that your friend does not quite feel ready to be away from home and family.

I was ready at 11 when I went to CH, my cousin from rural Somerset got a place at Norlands (THE nanny college) at age 16 (in 1967) lasted a week and called her parents to take her home, but 2 years later got a job in London and left with never a backward glance.

I was driving with my daughter today and she and her friends are SO ready to go to Uni.

I don't think it is maturity or anything, just when the time is right you know.

Thanks Matt!
:D

I just hope that they'll be good enough to let me loose my selfconciousness on the fact that I'm going to be so far behind everyone at CH

Why do you think you will be so far behind Gemma?

(Oh and when I'm next down to see my parents, I'll let Josh know so I can finally meet you!)

D.T made me ridiculously happy. I so thought I was going to fail so getting an A was so relieving. I must have done really well on the exam to make up for the terrible disaster that was my coursework :)

I think I'll be far behind mostly because I've had terrible teaching in most subjects and it's mostly the atmosphere that is intimidating. It seems like everyone at CH is a genius and it makes it far worse when in Latin it's quite obvious i'm far behind everyone since I've only done it for 2 years.

It would be lovely to meet you finally!. Please make sure you tell Josh. :D :D
