GCSE/A Level results

Post by Vonny »

Did we at CH receive our GCSE and A Level results the same day as day schools? I distinctly remeber getting mine on a Thursday by post and am pretty sure it was the day it was splashed over the news channels. So were/are the results sent to boarding schools earlier so they can be posted out or are they sent directly from the examination boards?

Good luck anyone who is awaiting results today :)

In the premerger Horsham the results were sent out by the school which must have been a major task. I have no idea if there was a timing difference with state schools - I had no contact with under 60's outside CH

Zara, eldest Grand-Daughter just got her GCSE results.

2 x 'B's
3 x 'C's
1 x 'D'
1 x 'E'

More than enough to confirm her college place in September.

Well done Zara! Is she the footballer? My youngest daughter played her first season of Ladies football last season in the Kent League and won Manager's Player of the Year!

Back to topic: I remember receiving a results slip with "P" or "F" on it from CH. We were told our grades on our return the following term.

Yes - Both Zara and her younger sister, Sharna are footballers. Zara is playing this season for a newly formed side of which, for my sins, I'm Chairman !

Well done to Zara!

Thinking about it, I guess all the results are sent to all schools a week or so before the date they are issued so they can post them out if needs be.

Schools get results the day before but can`t issue any results until 6 a.m. (my husband is exams officer so I know these things! and he knew the girls` results the day before he was allowed to tell us - no hints given whatsoever either!)

We got our A level results by letter on the same day as the rest of the country with a little note from DR that she hoped they were what I needed. As we had four terms at Hertford we got our O levels after we went back to school and I remember all of us besieging Queenie Blench's car as she drove in.

My 21 year old who missed his teen years with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome took GCSE Maths and English at evening classes this year and got 2 x Bs. (A Hamlet?) He couldn't get higher than a B in Maths on the course he took, and he hated English ("I can read, write and speak it why do I need to do an exam?") but got A* for his coursework so just did the minimum on his exams.

He is quietly pleased with himself.

Way back when I did them, there wasn't so much in the media about them and certainly not the big build up to the day. We were told which week they would be out and address the postcard or envelope for where we would be that week.

The four term year started when I went into Upper VI, so I got both O & A level results in the holidays.

Reading the West Sussex Couty Times this morning I`ve discovered that there are at least 7 GCSE candidates in the Horsham area who came in the top 5 in the country for English Lit. (and 4 of the top 5 are from CH!)
Someone`s maths gone wrong?
Or just too many exam boards?
I find it hard to believe that the rest of the country doesn`t also have candidates in "top 5s!!

Or is it me???

Whey hey!!
My GCSE Maths tutee (I can't spell - that's why I tutor maths) got an
A GRADE!
Dead-chuffed - first one to get an A - most of them I take on are looking for a little help to get them at least a C.

I've been celebrating with the G & T - can you tell?

I remember calling a non Foundationer pal for my A level results. Her M&D ran Peele A at the time and she was happy to secretly hand them out early.

It was 16 years ago.
