Collective noun for elves?

Post by Katharine »

Is there a collective noun for elves? This morning when I tried to reach the nightsafe my way was blocked by a complete elvery (?) of red and green felt. I am not sure how many there were all heights from under 5 foot to well over 6 foot. Yes, it was time for Santa trains again! Our elves are custodians of crackers amongst other tokens of festive merriment.

After a long settled spell of glorious sunny frosty days it was miserable weather but that did not stop the Ho Ho Ho enjoyment of the day.

It wasn't an excess of 'Mothers Ruin' before your trip to the safe, was it Katharine ?

Quite sure, J.R. They were there again today! This time they had glorious sunshine. I don't think I will see any more for about 11 months!

In the crossword dictionary which has practically every one of them elves doesn't seem to be there but if one takes elves as a loose interpretation you could use crowd since it is a 'crowd of people' so a 'crowd of elves' could be appropriate?

or......
A Caper of Elves
A Choir of Elves
A Flight of Elves
A Melody of Elves
A Nudity of Elves
A Throng of Elves
A Community of Elves

Yeah that's about it because you would hardly call them a Bevy of Elves since it is technically a Bevy of Buxom Wenches........

Well we certainly did not have a nudity of them! A caper may well be right!

This year the Santa trains seem to have gone fairly well - only a few families turning up in the wrong place or on the wrong day. I did not hear of any with tickets for a completely different railway which we have had before! Why is it that when a family has turned up at the wrong station on the wrong day it is always OUR fault never theirs?
