So did we, and several uncles and cousins (from both sides) bonded over the cricket match on the village pitch next door.

Wouldn't have worked for us in 1970! The British Council needed to see the marriage certificate before they would pay my air fare to return to Ghana with John! They even asked whether we got married in the morning or afternoon to be able to work out whether John's marriage allowance was for half a day or a whole day the day we got married.cstegerlewis wrote:So true - 18 years this year and not even engaged, just 2 children, reaonsable mortgage and a few nice holidays with what would have been 'the wedding fund'sejintenej wrote:Family politics! it is almost worth living in sin

I wouldn't know how they work now.

That's one thing; when I was there I needed Barclays Bank's permission to get even married before the age of 25. (That also applied if I was working in the UK.)Katharine wrote: Wouldn't have worked for us in 1970! Having more money doesn't make you happier. I have 50 million dollars
but I'm just as happy as when I had 48 million.

Good Morning Possums
The great day was over so quickly, but much fun was had by all. Jess looked lovely - despite acting like Bridezilla on steroids during the final hours. I didn't make the previous day's rehearsal (delayed flights from England), and Jess was still feeling seriously under the weather, having attended her Hens' Night on Thursday. I thought that the poor celebrant was going to expire when, two minutes before the ceremony was due to begin, Jess began asking her to include various points that she hadn't mentioned before. She (celebrant) did a magnificent job, her only slip-up being when she mentioned the family losses that had occurred recently, and mentioned the death of Maggie (greyhound), who was sitting just behind her, albeit minus a back leg
Maggie actually led the way into the courtyard for the ceremony, stopping to wee exactly where the bridesmaids were to stand, before lying down in the shade.
John's Mum is a shy, retiring lady, who quickly fell victim to the hot day, not eating, and her glass being continually refilled with bubbles without her knowledge. Unfortunately, on her way to a quick lie down, she fell and hit the corner of her face on a wooden chest. Hopefully her black eye will have disappeared before she gets back to England.
More later - off to spend a last few hours with Mitch (son) before he has to fly back to Queensland.
xx

Re: Weddings...
Glad to hear it all went so well and was enjoyed by everyone. In my experience weddings are generally very happy occasions and it sounds like this was no exception. Now you can relax and look forward to your trip to England

Glad you all had a great day. You wouldn't have been so lucky here, the rain tipped down almost all day.

Re: Weddings...
I'm so pleased it all went well - apart from the groom's mother damaging herself. There's always one (it's usually me!). Would love to see some piccies!

Re: Weddings...

Jess' wedding boots were supposed to travel from Houston to Adelaide with her father. Sadly, the suitcase they were in didn't make it here until Sunday morning. Somewhat classier white heels were worn for the ceremony, but once the dancing started ....................

Caroline!
You're there!
I'm all excited with trying to enlarge the picures for even more detail - the dress is fabulous - was there much equine dribbling?

Re: Weddings...
I give up (for now).
I intended to load photos at Uni (fast connection), but my laptop won't read the discs of photos (we're still running on Windows 2000, and I guess that is the problem).
At home, am able to read the discs, but dialup is sooooooooooooooooo slow.
