There's a charity shop in Tiverton in the window of which patrons are encouraged to post heart-shaped St Valentine's messages.

In the midst of a hundred passionate protestations, I spotted

"Roses r Red
Violets r Blue
And im off my Head
From Sniffing glue

Last year, I received two tubs of buy-one-get-one-free chicken poo pelleted manure! Surprise! This year, nothing yet....

When I handed my card over this morning, I was met with an embarrassed sheepish grin. "I didn't forget", he said, "I just didn't think we did valentines".

After 8 years, when we have exchanged valentines every single year so far.......

Oh well, at least he has some making up to do. Chocs tonight, I hope

I did breakfast in bed today as I was first up. It was only when my wife said "thanks for remembering" that I realised what day it was.

I carefully picked my card out 2weeks ago and spent a while thinking about what to write. Now i do think that st valentine's day is a cmmerical ploy for card companies and that actually you shouldnt have to wait until one day of the year to show the person you love that you do!!! but i do expect a card! I was told last night i would get one this afternoon-either it had yet to be bought (which is poss as on tuesday night had said do i have to buy one???) or it was left at work.

I was given one this afternoon and it clearly had been thought about! We had a nice lunch and thats about it....i wouldnt want him to buy me flowers of chocs today as they wouldnt mean anything really-to me it is far more meaningful and romantic when he does it when i lease expect it!

I make most of my own cards, and I make John a Valentine card each year. This year it took far longer than I intended as I changed my mind about it!! He seems to appreciate it, and he gives me one - taking the trouble to find a very nice one.

As I write, Radio 4 is talking about Valentine's Day in Pakistan, I don't remember any publicity for it while we were there, nor in Ghana when we were there. We started giving just cards to each other when we lived in London in the 80s. Our next posting was to Brunei and it was big business there - at the school I taught at the Prefects gave each member of staff a red rose. I don't know whether they were hoping for good marks - didn't work with me!

Josh, how can you not even guess who was embracing you?

Was it very dark? Perhaps she was draped in a thick blanket? Or the whole operation conducted at extreme speed?

Snuggles are bought by one and anonymously delivered by another on their behalf..

When the allocated snuggler hadn't been able to find their snugglee by evening, you could end up being snuggled in bed!

How fascinating! Thank you, Ben. But how far, exactly, does a snuggle go (mwah, mwah? Possibly more passionate)? And how much is the delivery charge? How appalling if one is hired by another to deliver the snuggle to the object of one's own affections, so that one's own affections are passed by!

i was supposed to meet the bf in London at lunchtime to have a lovely afternoon together but.......
i was held up getting to the station
couldnt ifnd a space so was leaving it parked up on a verge along with a number of other cars
then heard that all trains had been cancelled going London bound and trains were going as far as sevenoaks from London!
The burst into tears and phone the bf
Decided i would dirive to sevenoaks and meet him who would get train to sevenoaks
Then took me 1hour to drive 17miles!
Had a nice lunch and to make up for stress had a huge pudding

then went home and fell asleep on sofa until ocado came with my shopping!!!!
