actually I remember more the bakery close to Woollies in Hertford. In our last year or so - when we must have had money in our pockets and went out into the town in small groups - I remember buying fresh cream 'milly fillys' [mille feuilles] and then scuttling into the Castle grounds to consume them. On one occasion we were observed by Jukes and Wilson, who walked by as if they had not seen us. Bless them!
