Re: Becomming a New Dep
Josh. I can't quite remember the EXACT time limits set on each punishment after all this time.
I seem to remember the mile was from Coleridge B, round the mile and back in around five minutes, often followed by the punishing monitor on a bicycle. Failure to complete within the required time resulted in "Do It Again !!!!"
The QM was from CB, down the track to the post office and back. I seem to recall it was to be done in around 2 minutes.
I'm sure if I'm wrong on the times, there are people on here who will be able to correct me ! This was known as a 'Post-Office' ! John.

So if you add the long mile and the quarter mile together, then you are not far off a mile...Eruresto wrote:The QM is .22, the short mile is .6, and the long mile is .71.

A word of advice to anyone thinking of going to CH.
Christ's Hospital is deceptively nice, on the outside, but once you've spent a couple of terms there, you'll see its dark underbelly, full of corruption and hatred. I know someone who didn't fit in, so they forced him out on a technicality. John Franklin is the worst Headmaster ever to grace the Avenue, he cannot speak publically, and he has no control over the students. I only hope that you get a chance to read this before the Franklin Patrol come along and delete this.
With the best regards.

Re: Becomming a New Dep
thats quite a statement to make, i could certainly argue against it-a number of people i knew at the school who possibly 'didnt fit in' but were there and enjoying it.kimchi wrote:A word of advice to anyone thinking of going to CH.

As for John Franklin, well i dont think 3terms is enough for him to make an impact
However i appreciate your honesty and hope you continue to post in an honest manor

Re: Becomming a New Dep
Well, I think we can safely accept that Mr Franklin's wife is not the author of Kimchi's novel debut on the forum. I guess we also might think it is a pupil who has lost a friend from the school and feels angry and upset. Maybe they feel it was unjust and need a place to kick off about it. Honesty is a double edged sword on this forum which can sometimes be an iron fist in a velvet glove but happily that doesn't prevent people from saying what they think-most of the time!
As I understand it Mr F was chosen from 50 candidates. I have to trust who ever made the choice and assume the process was rigorous. Cards on table -he is no public speaker and is compared to Mr Bean and Stitch (Lilo and Stitch -Disney Film) by a large number of pupils. That doesn't matter to me. What he has done that impressed me is be completely honest about what he disapproves of in the school . You need to see the letter he wrote to parents about what has gone on at the Bax in recent years. He didn't disguise what went on there and told parents what to do about it. I will enlighten you if you are interested.
He also sent ,most recently, a letter which was very detailed about staffing and other matters which also stated that he felt many pupils were under performing and he clearly finds this unacceptable. Both my children say discipline has improved radically since his appointment and a number of staff have indicated to me that they are happy about this.
If kimchi has something to say which is important for other parents and pupils to know then tell the truth and shame the devil. No one knows who you are and there are some really wise and sympathetic people here( not me by the way!)who might tell you something helpful.

Enlighten us nastymum! I thought the BAX was the staff pub but it seems that pupils go there too? I did see a letter about drugs at the school and that was very firm.
As Blondie (Debbie Harry) writes it is perhaps unjust to judge the guy on 3 terms and it must be a challenge to fill Big Pete's shoes too.
Discipline is a tough one as in the days pre Esther Rantzen creating that Child Helpline (some of it is good don't get me wrong) pupils could be punished properly and evemn if your socks weredown you'd get an earful. My last visit to CH dispapointed me when I saw pupils shabbily dressed and you just felt that things had slid compared to the 70-80s. When I was a teacher at Oakham School in 90s it was interesting to see how much liberty the pupils had gained since me being a schoolboy. We had very clearly drawn out dos and don't as teachers as a good lawsuit was always looming....ahhh birng back the cold showers, boards, full uniform on weekends, drills etc etc etc!!!!

Re: Becomming a New Dep
I can't really comment on the new Head, only having been to CH once briefly since his appointment.
I have to say that recently I have found appearence standards of pupils to be slack, to say the least. I know that some of you will say, "Ah ! But you were from C.M.E. Seaman days !"
Very true. C.M.E. was a very quiet unassuming man but ruled with an iron fist !

Re: Becomming a New Dep
I have heard about the letter that the Head sent to some parents... apparently, according to some kids I spoke to on Old Blues' Day, this letter meant that their parents encouraged them to go and have some fun... I believe the letter talked about drug taking etc... my knowledge of 'Bax Night' (I went for quite a few years) is that there is some underage drinking but it's not as bad as all that... Frankly, it's out of school term and it is a matter for parents and the Bax Castle themselves...
As for not making an impact, he certainly is from what I have heard...

... and the police, Matt !
Though some pubs seem to condone it, it is still a very serious offence.
As far as drugs are concerned, I don't believe there should ever be a second chance.
