I agree with nastmum, there are good reasons for a lot of these. I have suffered as a result of the shorter times out after prep - for meetings that is, not for "social" time - but see where he is coming from. That aside, when a new head was sought they didn't look for a PCDS clone. To quote Nightbringer (a Warhammer novel - feel free to snigger):

I think that's a point. Mr. Franklin will go at things in a different way because he's a different person. Some things may not be so popular. But there you have it.

And JR, you're right. I make no apologies to anyone here, that I am a cynic of the school. I suspect you're right about this being a reaction to the introduction of tighter discipline.

Re. assembly, I think that applause is justified, but whooping isn't. Were I to go up for any reason, whooping wouldn't elate me, just make me cringe. Applause is far more refined. Whereas doing the hundred metres (not me, never me!) to calm applause would be awful.

I quite agree, he is a diffeent person and those who did the hiring obviusly felt he would take the school in a good and possibly new direction! Had they found another Dr Southern that person would still have been criticised for not being Dr Sourthern. Franklin has been there 1 academic year and in a very short space of time made a lot of change...however he is going into his second year now and im sure thing will become more settled. Im sure it toook dr sourthern more than a year to make his mark, get to know everyone and all of CH and its wonderful ways!

The departure of David Newsome (1979) and arrival of Derek "Bring back Baker" was also very similar to what is going on at the moment. The charisma of Newsome who knew everybody's name and who was larger than life was always going to be a tough act to follow for staff and elder pupils alike: i was only a squit when newsome left but Baker was my head and it was he who appointed me SG. Ironically after also a very shaky start Baker made his mark and the BBB campaign speaks for itself!¨

Also worth noting that both Heads were politely removed because they had the courage to stand up for what they beleived in and if ever Franklin dispelases the Governing body, don't worry he will be quitely thanked.

I think he is also showing signs of courage to impiose change and lead a new "Fourth Army" to quote Euresto!

These changes are the same in life everywhere as also witnessed in the professional situation for Kerren. Unfairenss is never agreable but goes with the turf when new people step in. Southern left his big shoes...up to Franklin to put those away and step in to his own....

Hello everyone.. thank you so much for your advice, and words of wisdom (including those who have been kind enough to send me PM's). I feel really guilty to have hijacked the CH thread, and in such angst and such detail.
I am still considering my options, but the advice that I should record everything (not difficult, since I have all the e mails) is sound and I can do that., easily. I may also seek an initial interview with our HR department - who already knows that I am dissaffected by the new boss's move, behind my back, to appoint one of my staff as his 'PA'. I'll take it from there.... but tomorrow my 'original' boss returns from leave (albeit to an horrendously busy schedule) and if I have an opportunity to share my concerns with him, then I will take it. The analysis of my 'new' boss is that he is a 'little man', full of his own 'self importance'. Someone said he looked like a bustling Bank Manager (apologies to any Old Blues who are Bank Managers!).
