Master's Wives....
Do you remember the names of your teachers wives? Some played an integral part in our day to day life...a shoulder to cry on or a birthday cake for your 18th...
Here's two to start you off...
John and Eleanor Denison...
Tom and Jackie Jeffers...

Re: Master's Wives....
Eleanor Denison was a nurse in the sicker during my time.
Nurse Mc Morran if I remember correctly.
Mrs Wilson (never knew her Christian name but wife of Roger Wilson the maths teacher) ran a voluntary "O" level evening class in divinity from her home which I attended.
Does Olive Peto count given that she was an English teacher in her own right?

Re: Master's Wives....
Being a master's wife in the 1950s/60s couldn't have been much fun unless like Olive Peto (or on a somewhat lower level, Ma Massen) you had independent status, and most looked and behaved as if it wasn't much fun. Some presumably knew what they were letting themselves in for: Tom Keeley's wife had been a dietician, and John Page married Macnutt's daughter.
Reggie Dean never, ever appeared in the school with his wife. I never saw her. What she did, I don't know (they lived in Horsham, and he cycled in for lessons).
Pat Cullen for a brief period was engaged to an actress called Sarah Lawson (who later married Patrick Allen). I recall her making one appearance at the school (Sunday evening chapel). That was probably enough for her.

Re: Master's Wives....
This thread is a demonstration of how things have changed, now at CH the wives/husbands of the CH staff are often very visable in the school life through doing things such as house duties themselves.

I would imagine that became much more important after the importation of 'The Gals' from Hertford.blondie95 wrote:This thread is a demonstration of how things have changed, now at CH the wives/husbands of the CH staff are often very visable in the school life through doing things such as house duties themselves.

As a matter of interest, how did this Kezia pronounce her name?
The literary eponym is the heroine of Katherine Mansfield's best short story The Doll's House, and on the BBC over the years I've heard it read both to rhyme with Isaiah, and also as KEYSia.
