Two Disasters In Four Days !!!!

Post by J.R. »

Firstly, Sir Ian Blair is forced to resign from the Metropolitan Police by someone who I don't believe, technically has the authority to ask for his resignation.

A couple of days later, Peter, ("Elastic Man"), Mandelson walks back into the cabinet, FOR THE THIRD TIME !!!!

Would the last person to leave the country please ensure that all the lights are switched off ??

Last time wasn't it something about a suspicion of undeclared interests or money or some other breach of the rules. As for the time before that there was something about suspicion of a breach of the rules AFAIR. Whatever it was he had to resign / get expelled from the Cabinet

With his record, we can make a good guess!!!

At least John Profumo OBE(military) CBE (also correctly referred to as Baron Profumo) and Lord Lucan did the decent thing.

I don't think Boris Johnson asked for his resignation did he? The impression that I received is that they could not work together and, as one was elected and the other appointed, it was obvious which one had to go. Sir Ian Blair may have many talents, and his understanding of the politics of his job may have been one of them, but I do not think he enjoyed the confidence of either the majority of the public or many of his police officers. I work with a number of former police officers who are still involved in law enforcement and none of them seem to have any time at all for him, or at least that's the impression I've received. Personally, I'm glad he's gone; he filled me with no confidence whatsoever. As for Mandelson, I couldn't agree more; he appears to have a completely different morality from the rest of us (and that has nothing at all to do with his sexual orientation).

I was pleased to see a Sunday Times journalist refer to Lord Mandelson of the Dark Side. Any advance on that for his title?

On a weekend of reflection, I'm starting to see just how lucky Sir Ian really is. I've read the projected payout and pension plan which he gets because he 'jumped' before he was 'pushed'.

Lucky man. If I was him, I'd retire and enjoy the rest of my life very comfortably.

I feel somewhat sorry for the poor devil that'll pick up the 'Poisoned Chalice'. I bet the BPA are already taking to arms.

As a former "plod" John why is there a BPA? I would have thought it divisive to the force as a whole and what if somebody wanted to form a WPA. Would that be allowed?

I understood that the Police Federation was supposed to represent the interests of ALL police officers regardless of rank, colour or creed.

It would'nt have been necessary in my day, let alone even thought of.

Yes - The PF represents ALL officers up to the rank of Chief Inspector.

I honesly think that if police officers even attempted to start a WPA, the screams of racism would echo round the walls of the Home Office and New Scotland Yard for months and months.

A very sad reflection of our society today.

Incidently, I was recently chatting to an old mate who has now retired from the Met as a DCI. I asked him if any claims of racism in the Met were true, and he replied unboubtably when he left. Not because of the officers colour or race, but because they would be only too keen to use the 'race-card' first, possibly to evade disciplinary charges !

Read into that what you will !
