Charitable status of independent schools

Re: Charitable status of independent schools
You are a bit behind with developments. The Clerk whose replacement is being advertised (Tuckwell) actually left some three months ago after just thirteen months in post. Since the CHA was set up three years ago under the Counting House, three CHA Managers have resigned, each after about 11-14 months in post. The Managers' boss, the Director of Development (Sam Ryder) resigned in the middle of 2008 after about 2 years in post. Now the Clerk. No comment.

Thanks david for this clarification. LIving in Europe does sometimes mean that we are "behind" but clearly somethin' ain't right there. That's a lot of HR turnover....

On the subject of the CHA Clerk-- I don't know how far the Appointment process has got, but I assume a "Six Figure Salary" will have attracted a little intrest (No pun intended)
In any Organisation, in which I have been involved, the departure of so many, from one post, within such a short time, would have caused alarm bells to ring at Board Level !
ALL the Incumbents cannot have been unsuitable upon appointment ----has anybody looked ,again, at the Job Description and Contract of Employment ? ?
Were all the successful Applicants, carrying a Water Buffalo ?

I wonder if the fast turnaround has to do with the Alumni/Governor/HM triumvirate which must be a challenge to any Clerk.
Two headmasters in my time toppled because of well documented scuffles with Governors etc...

DH Newsome left in 1978 because fo the Hertford merger plans and BBbaker also went a bit suddenly too.
Anyway it's not nice for stability to see so many Clerks go in such short spaces of time...FFT Food for thought.

I assume he opposed them?CHAZ wrote:DH Newsome left in 1978 because fo the Hertford merger plans
Didn't he leave just before we moved to Horsham in 1985? His daughter (a few years below me) was in BaB but as far as I remember she didn't board and was picked up by her mother after prep each evening.CHAZ wrote:and BBbaker also went a bit suddenly too.

Re: Charitable status of independent schools
Yup Grolly Newsome had a run in on all that and went to Wellington.
As for baker, I left in 1984 so I think he was still there for the academic year 1985. He did have a son called Simon who also went to the school too.
He left to teach History in USA after CH and that was the last I heard of him. I understand his family satyed in Southwater though...

I'm pretty sure it was Mr Baker who invited several OBs involved with the National Youth Music Theatre at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 86 or maybe 87 to a wonderful Sunday Lunch with his family... in Edinburgh... we ate so well that I found myself drifting off to sleep later that afternoon while attending a concert by Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers - SHAME ON ME!!CHAZ wrote:Yup Grolly Newsome had a run in on all that and went to Wellington.
