Re: Your nickname
Horsham staff list early 1969 Pongo Littlefield, Rocker Rae, Bwana Goodall, Kit Aitkin, Beefy Barnes, Bronco Lane, Pot Bevan, Stein Johnstone, Small Balls Hall Matthews, Bernie Biggs, Fuzz-Peg Furnborough, Spitter Edwards (also known as fish-head), Potty Burr, Cobber Cornish, Killer Fry, Greynut Gregory, Beaky Eagle, Ears Hutton, Bogie Fryer, ( all recorded in my blue book from that year) Others that come to mind are Boomer Carrington, Rip Kirby, Ubi Atkinson, Bomber Nicholson. From 1970 Blue book the following Socks Biddick, N*gger Simms, Slut Dawe, B*gger Johnson, B*gger Haydon, Sunshine Denison, Sneaky Beagle (Eagle), also sometimes called Snout, Fish Edwards, Smally Hall Matthews, Rat James, Burr Manikin Johnson, Sausage Keeley. I only remember using half of these and they plainly changed from time to time - some slowly evolving. 1971 there was Junky or Rat Atkinson, Poof Barford, Bum Drum Drummond, Nana Goodall, Nog, or Osram Lorimer, 1972 Dolly O'meara, Ping Vincent Smith, Kemp-ski Kemp, Fallick Matthews. Some teachers were referred to with their first name and not a rude nickname, like Reggie Watters, Bob Hailey, Nick Plumley. No idea why. I hope I haven't offended anyone with some of the more unkind names, but that is what was written at the time...

Re: Your nickname
Just remembered another
BO Shippen
Why BO?
B.O.
Always loved it when he hit the last chord of some blasting funereal fugue on the Big School organ and his whole body would slowly bend forwards until he was practically lying on the keyboard, and then as the chord ended he would shoot back upright again
It made me think of the word "Flourish"
And what was that line floreat et floruit?

Re: Your nickname
I've said before that my husband knew PPdeWB from his days volunteering on the Ffestiniog Railway. I had heard that particular set of initials several times over many years before this Forum revealed the CH connection. I have just told John about this nickname and his comment was 'Well he kept that very quiet when he came here!'bap wrote:Although I wasn't in Maine A - I believe PPdeWB was known as "Prickly Penis de Wobbly B*ll*cks"

Re: Your nickname
He was called Potty Burr because he did potty things in some of his physics lessons
One day he spent a quarter of an hour sticking a large rubber suction cup on to the top of his desk and then hit it with a wooden ruler and when it popped away he would beam with delight as if it was a fantastically funny and clever trick. But woe betide anyone who sniggered - they would be punished.
I was once late for class and had to write a thousand word essay on "Punctuality and Punctiliousness"
My best memory of the man was his way of saying "Today we are going to study....Specific.....Heat.....Capacity!" in an accent that can only be described as something like Kenneth Williams on "Just a Minute" fabulously entertaining teacher if a little cruel on occasion and that meant that one hung onto his every word
